Is it thread necromancy if it's your own thread?
...so, I finally got around to doing some meaningful painting over the last few days. I got some work done on the banelord and acquired some models to be used as heltalons.
First the baneblade. I decided after much angst and wasted bits that a box-type launcher added too much height to the model, so I used FW manticore missiles arranged horizontally on a rack. Many thanks to CaptainSenioris for his contribution of the missiles (both the bits and post gratis). The model looks so much cooler thanks to your contribution, man.
Here he is primed:

And here he is with the metal bits painted. I started with silver, followed by a wash of devlan mud, then another wash of badab black.

Finally, here are my heltalon proxies with their first coat of badab black. Can anyone guess what obscure, rarely used Soviet/Russian aircraft it is?

I've since put in the random pink panels (see the YaK-141's earlier in the thread), but haven't touched them up yet. Stay tuned. I already used the heltalons in a game this past weekend (3fms/750pts of ground attack goodness against eldar), and they worked pretty well. Unfortunately, my opponent didn't oblige my and keep his prancing pointy-ears out in the open much. I took 2 helblades and 1 heltalon fms in the next game. As uberChris says when Dave takes 3 fm's of t-bolts, "you have no honor." I have become the thing I hate
