Good looking stuff! The bit is from the top of this FW dread:

You're right! I looked at the head before but not the things on top of the shoulders.

It has been a while since I've updated my thread, but you all know how real life goes sometimes...

I was able to get the banelord almost entirely put together (finally). The last remaining scratchbuilding question is how to represent the havoc missiles, or whether I should at all. Without further ado:

I added some more hoses to the mutated chest part, and put some speakers where the TLD's would've gone. I wanted a more dynamic pose, so he's striding while turning towards some unseen threat. At this point, I have no idea what his paintjob is going to look like. UberChris (who helped out a great deal with the construction) suggested a hodgpodge of various titan legions to represent cannibalizing of spare parts from the battlefield... That could get complicated however.

I say KISS make-up for the paintjob. For the missiles, I still think a shortened Havoc Launcher would look best. He's looking good.

Ok, so here he is with the havoc launcher resting (not glued) on top of the carapace. I'm not sure if its a bit over the top or what:

The pintle mount is sitting next to his feet. I'd use it in some fashion to attach the launcher to the carapace. I suppose I could chop the launcher down to be a bit shorter... hadn't really considered making it shorter until I'd already built it.

I like it with the launcher on top, when it comes to titans, is there even such a thing as "over the top"? :D

It is over the top for me. It needs a smaller havoc launcher or possibly none.
It looks much better without this one I think.

Titan as a whole looks lovely!

Would some FW manticore missiles suit your purposes for a rack of missiles? FW cocked up my recent order and I now find myself with 3(pairs) of spare missles, I got 2 lefty sprues and no right. EDIT: Make that 6, my replacements had exactly the same problem :s

Is it thread necromancy if it's your own thread?

...so, I finally got around to doing some meaningful painting over the last few days. I got some work done on the banelord and acquired some models to be used as heltalons.

First the baneblade. I decided after much angst and wasted bits that a box-type launcher added too much height to the model, so I used FW manticore missiles arranged horizontally on a rack. Many thanks to CaptainSenioris for his contribution of the missiles (both the bits and post gratis). The model looks so much cooler thanks to your contribution, man.

Here he is primed:

And here he is with the metal bits painted. I started with silver, followed by a wash of devlan mud, then another wash of badab black.

Finally, here are my heltalon proxies with their first coat of badab black. Can anyone guess what obscure, rarely used Soviet/Russian aircraft it is?

Image

I've since put in the random pink panels (see the YaK-141's earlier in the thread), but haven't touched them up yet. Stay tuned. I already used the heltalons in a game this past weekend (3fms/750pts of ground attack goodness against eldar), and they worked pretty well. Unfortunately, my opponent didn't oblige my and keep his prancing pointy-ears out in the open much. I took 2 helblades and 1 heltalon fms in the next game. As uberChris says when Dave takes 3 fm's of t-bolts, "you have no honor." I have become the thing I hate :P

i dunno, he said 'obscure' but then posted a picture of what seems to be a SU-30 (with and without canards, i assume to differentiate between the squadrons) which isnt what i'd consider to be particularly obscure. maybe its a trick question...

Now that I think of it, maybe it is...
But no, not a MiG-29, and not an SU-30.

the absent canards are more a product of the plastic kit than of intent on my part. Both the canards and their attachment points are razor-thin, without any slots or tabs to help in attaching them... after managing three fiddly assemblies, I made a quick cost-benefit analysis that the canards were not worth the raised blood pressure and shortened lifespan that would've resulted. Unfortunately, they come in pairs, so one flight will have one of each type. But hey, they're chaotic...

Been looking forward to seeing the Banelord, Missile rack is looking pretty sweet.

My guess would be the Su35UB?? Fat cockpit kinda gives it away.
