Naive question: why are Imperial Titans fearless? Aren't they piloted like a tank is piloted? If so, what makes the pilot braver than say a space marine? I can understand Chaos Titans being fearless on account of them being 'piloted' by a daemon, but why are Imperial Titans fearless?

Because Imperial Titans are cool and guided my the Hand of the God-Emperor! Duh!

LOL, I suspect that the Titan crew are trained well enough or equal to SM in there skill plus if your driving a giant your less likely to be scared of the tiny dreadnought over there charging you toe.

But really its cuz there Cool and the God Emperor said so! :P ::) ;D

They aren't piloted exactly like a tank. They're controlled by a mind-impulse link. The MIL is essentialy a neural control unit, so the Princeps is the titan while he drives it. The whole "they look like ants, I'll step on them" thing is the other usual justfication.

I think it's more a game mechanic to ensure broken titans don't die horribly to weapons they really shouldn't.

From a fluff standpoint, Battle Titan princeps generally believe anything but Engine vs Engine combat as beneath them, which could explain fearless.

i always thought of it as representing the ego of the titan crew - like captainsenioris said, walking around in a titan makes you feel more or less invincible and only another engine is anything to actually worry about.

The princeps have spent so much time wired into the machine that they're barely human anymore, and certainly don't think like one.

Titans are also "God Machines" so I would imagine the crew tend to feel they're invincible versus most, other than other titans.

For a great story about a titan crew (and the effects of being a titan princeps) read the Black Library novel "Titanicus" by Dan Abnett. An Imperial titan legion squares off against a Chaos titan legion. Thought it was a pretty good novel and Dan Abnett is by far the Black Library's best writer.

ya , god machines says it all. on the note of being wired to the machine to pilot ALL warlords, some Reavers and NO warhounds, a captain(or pincips or what ever they called) have to live suspended naked in a giant clear tube of fluids for the rest of their lives, so that in its self means if they they can live like THAT , then they would laugh (or gurgle) at the idea of running away.

"Retreat ? retreat ? Of course our princeps merely gurgled away at the suggestion."

I like the sound of that :)

I think in some of the real early fluf the titan itself had a personality and it would often be an agressive one with little to no concept od defeat !! The pilots would become suseptable to tacking on the traits of the titan and at times the titans personality would become the dominant one !!

All in all I'm a huge lump of the toughest metals know to man protected by multipal void sheilds, armed with some of the most potent wepons ever thought of, powerd by a plasma reactor all of my own.

So you think you scare me ???

Dam I love Titans
