The Eye opens... NOW!

All nine Traitor Legions have emerged and began the slaughter of Emperor's servants...
But fear not, for the might of the Astartes has also been boosted by presence of the Blood Angels and the Blood Angels variant list, the Army of Death, comprising in 100% of Death Company.

TFH. Quality over quantity.

All the previously existing army lists have been enchanced, and a Codex Astartes army list Amendments section added. It is there mostly to show how did I change the Codex Astartes list to really reflect the values of a Space Marine army, but also to provide important enchancements over the original, like the inclusion of the Techmarines.

The Sons of Russ will have to wait a while... I don't have Space Wolf Codex, and won't have it for some time. Sorry, puppies. Anyway, Dark Angels never liked the Space Wolves and never will.

The file is for D/L at groups.yahoo.com/group/epica/files

I took a look at your lists, they are very good work. I most like the Death Company, but think on Epic:A Scale could do with some single Preadators as upgrades, for a little bit of help.

Cheers

Thanks TFH- I am slowly (oh so slowly) developing my own minor mods for a Flesh Tearers force and have found your lists to be quite thought provoking.

Cheers!

I would like to see that Tas, as I was planning a Flesh Tearers force, as they onlt number 4 companies. It would be a nice little army, compared with some of the massive ones around here!

Cheers

Chris

We're having a mini-tournament in Ottawa in a couple weeks and I thought I'd solicit advice on my list.

Platoon #1 - 8 marines with Chaos Lord and Icon, 3 Defilers
555 pts

Platoon #2 - 8 marines with Chaos lord and Icon, 2 obliterators
480 pts

4 Scout Marines with Rhinos
= 170 pts

4 Predators and Land Raider
= 275 pts

5 Terminators with Chaos Lord
= 325 pts

4 Raptors with Chaos Warlord
= 140 pts

8 Bikes with Chaos Lord
= 300 pts

2 Decimators
= 450 pts

== 2695 pts

I know the Raptors should be bigger, but I'm limited for model selection at the moment. Other than that... fire away!

I'd dropthem from the list if you only haave the four figs. They'll die pretty quickly and not really give you much back in terms of points.

Do you not have any Rhinos?

I do have rhinos, but with both of my marine retinues have units that cannot travel in Rhinos. Do you think I should move the oblits over to the unit with the defilers, drop the raptors, and give rhinos to the second retinue? Losing an activation?

Thanks!

Perhaps move the Obliterators to the Chosen formation as they can all Teleport and then buy Rhinos for one of the CSm formations.

You might want to do it for the formation with the Defilers as well. Rhinos can be used to soak up AT fire directed at the Defilers.

The Raptors are a loss at the moment. All they are really going to do, without sacrifices, is break. So you'd be down an activation anyway

Definitely put the Warlord in Retinue #1.

He?ll get shot to pieces in no time with the Raptors, or any other small formation that sticks its head out. 3xDefilers looks like you want to keep them in the rear, possibly to guard the Blitzkrieg objective, ideal place for a Supreme Commander.

OK, new list based on your suggestions:

PLatoon#1: 8 Marines with Chaos Warlord, Icon, 3 defilers, 4 rhinos
= 595 pts

Platoon#2: 8 Marines with Chaos Lord, Icon, 4 rhinos
= 370 pts

Scout Marines with 2 Rhinos
= 170 pts

4 Predators and 1 Land Raider
= 275 pts

Chosen: 6 Terminators with Chaos Lord and 2 obliterators
= 540 pts

8 bikes with Chaos Lord
= 300 pts

2 Decimators
= 450 pts

7 Activations, 54 units and 2 war engines.

Sudden thought: should I exchange the Predators and Land Raiders formation for Helltalons or Swiftdeaths and another Oblit stand?

4 Rhinos in Retinue #1 are dead weight as the Defilers are move 15cm. I?d really consider using that formation to guard a centrally placed Blitz objective, that way  you can sustain fire early on with the Defilers. Such a formation will be very difficult to shift, even more so if you add an Obliterator. Only problem is that this is kinda pricey... :;):

I?d go:

PLatoon#1: 8 Marines with Chaos Warlord, Icon, 3 defilers, 1 Oblit
= 630 pts

Platoon#2: 8 Marines with Chaos Lord, Icon, 4 rhinos
= 370 pts

Scout Marines with 2 Rhinos
= 170 pts

3 Predators and 1 Land Raider
= 225 pts

Chosen: 6 Terminators with Chaos Lord and 2 obliterators
= 540 pts

8 bikes with Chaos Lord
= 300 pts

2 Decimators
= 450 pts

Drawback is that you have a large chunk of your points sitting back (#1), however Blitz is rather important, and any opponent wanting to shift the formation will have to try hard to achieve that. Plus, the Retinue isn?t twiddling thumbs but can use its Defilers to place barrages, always an endearing feature.

The lone Obliterator would also provide a token flak umbrella in turn 1 if you deploy your other formations sufficiently close, in case you face significiant enemy air assets.

If you drop the rhinos from the defiler formation, the formation can garrison.  That way you can put them forward enough to be a threat right away and let indirect fire cover the whole board, but they are still large enough that the enemy would have to go through them to reach any objectives in your table half.  If you are worried about the defilers being picked off, keep them behind terrain out of LoS.  After all, you will want the CSMs in cover anyway.

Also, if you are going to garrison them, you could put 1 of the Obliterators with them for centrally located AA.  It's neat to have Obliterators in your Chosen as they can all teleport, but then your AA starts the game off-board.

Those 40 rhino points extra could be used to change your armor formation to 3 preds/2 LR instead of 4/1, giving it better survivability and stronger AT ability.
