It occured to me today (whilst packing some ebay epic shipments that i'd sold) that, given the amount of buying and selling that goes on there must be PLENTY more epic gamers out there then are represented by the taccomms and (defunct?) specialist games forums.

Even if these are one time players that decide to give it a go with their mates and then never play again we are missing an oppurtunity to grab them online: a quick google search for 'Epic 40k' or Epic Armageddon' doesn't bring up a single result on the first few pages for the tactical command forums: which, I'm pretty sure, is where most epic resources and development takes place these days: we have a wealth of experience, a vast knowledge bank, and many many talented modellers and painters that can act as an inspiration to the rest of the web.

I know that Taccomms isn't purely about epic.
I know that the NetEA website is soon meant to be up and running.

But is there anyway that we can increase the forums online search prescence? My web fu is weak but if more of us who have websites were to put a link to the forums? If suggesting people visit from other sites (such as warseer) would it be better to actually hyperlink to the forums as opposed to merely typing "visit taccomms"?

Thoughts?

Google boosts results by checking cross-linked pages, that's why Wikipedia shows up so high on every search (Because of the numbers of links going to and between Wikipedia pages).

So having websites with links to TC would naturally boost TC's ratings. It'd help if TC actually had "epic" in its name though, heh.

Odd, I just did Google searches for both epic 40k and epic Armageddon and TC was the second and fifth link respectively.

I'm sure many people are just happy playing at home with what they have or get from GW, and have no real interest in expanding out.

Right, lets badger cybershadow to add Epic to the sites metadata and frontpage. Everyone else - to your websites and add links to tac-command!

Yep, i would say i quite often find tac-com on the front page of searches in the relevant areas. I quite often find pictures I recognize from tac-com on image searches as well (for a long time the top google image search result for 'forge world' was one of WMN's peices :P ).

Been there, done that! :)

It would be good to be able to generate more members for this place. I'd love to see the work done here to support Epic be appreciated more.

Google doesn't use information from meta tags at all, other search engines do.

I could almost certainly do more to make this place more search engine optimised. Alt tags are more difficult, as it would mean messing with the forum code. Links in are the probably an easier and better way to boost the sites ranking - and thanks to all that have links in thei sigs of other forums.
