hi all.

Despite reading the forum often, this is the first time I write here...so first I should introduce myself, my name is Alberto and I'm from Spain.

Few months ago I bought the tyranid army I always wanted, and I've started to throw some paint on it..
I am a very slow painter , plus I'm painting several Infinity armies, so do not expect many updates ::)

These are the first bugs I've painted as part of the Hive Fleet Kraken.

Mate,

Welcome, nice looking bugs, I like the red/bone contrast it works well. What are your thoughts on basing?

Cheers
Aaron

They look good. The Infinity stuff has always looked cool to me, the four-legged crawly things would be fun in Epic I think.

It seems you are off to a good start. The red/bone combination looks great.

I have no idea how to base them, suggestions please?

Infinity stuff are amazing, lot of detail and personality in every single model, also the game was born in my contry,so I recommend it ;)

New miniatures painted before starting my final exams:

I know I should have started by painting hormagaunts/termagaunts, but I really like the biovores and exocrines XD

Mate,

You want to do something that contrasts your paintjob as to highlight the job you have done with the model. Nids are known for desolating worlds, so maybe a theme along that line, something barren, maybe dark and volcanic looking terrain using some fine sand. Alternatively, take a look at Dawn of War and try to emmulate some of the infested worlds from there.

Cheers

Dark grey ash world bases would look really good here.

Are you using a dip on these? They look great :-)

Feytor this is the same colour style I tried with my nids and failed horribly to pull off! nice work. If I hadn't already gone a long way on the new scheme it almost makes me want to return to the original idea - great stuff! BTW what's your painting process? Exact colours etc? I agree with CAL001 and MoK on the bases too. Black/darkgrey frames bright colours nicely I've found.

I was thinking the same thing, something dark and desolate...anyway, I´ll probably continue painting nids and leave for later the basing...

I am a slow painter and I do not have so much time to paint, so the painting process is very simple: the first is to apply a coat of paint with GW bleached bone, then I apply vallejo red (model color 70947) to the details (scales, claws, horns ...), finally I apply a mixture of matt varnish and asphalt bitumen (12 parts of varnish for one of bitumen)
I'm not sure the English name is asphalt bitumen...the Spanish name is "betun de judea" and this is how looks like

I know I could get better results spending more time, but I think it is a very effective technique for these small miniatures ::)

That's wood dye to all us english! I used exactly the same stuff on my nids but due to the fact that it's part spirits (i.e. white spirit) it pitted the paint a bit and I had to give them a second coating of Army painter: however the mixutre of varnish works perfect if I assume that the pictures are of the models when all painting has dried?

Effective and fast, however it's taking longer than expected to paint the nids because the guy I bought the miniatures sold me most of them glued in their bases :(

XD I could not find the name, and it was as easy as wood dye...Yes, pictures are of models when all painting has dried

Newest nids are a few termagants (as always a bad photo ::) )
