I've been somewhat angsting on this ever since Adepticon. This is the list I took for the 3 game tournament. My opponents were Eldar (win with 4 objectives), Necrons (win with 3 objectives), Eldar (win with 4 objectives) netting best general though at one point I thought I had won overall due to some snafus with the scoring and then having the plaque taken from my hands. Comp and sports were scored on a rank your opponents 1-3. I ended up dead last in comp and sports....

Here is the list. As a note. I found out at the tournament that commissars were fixed at 1 per 500 so I'll mark where they all ended up.

Regimental HQ + Hydra: 550 points w Commissar

Tank Company + Demolisher Squadron + Hydra: 900 points w Commissar

Infantry Company + Fire Support Platoon: 350 w Commissar

Super Heavy Company (3 Baneblades) + Hydra: 550 w Commissar

Manticore Battery: 250 points

Shadowsword Platoon: 200 points

Sentinel Squadron: 100 points w Commissar

Sentinel Squadron: 100 points w Commissar

3000/3000 points

Note. Not a single flyer and no Titans. Only artillery was a single manticore battery. How was this list broken?

Not a broken list at all, sounds like your opponents couldn't accept being outplayed so are blaming the player/list

I'd agree, doesn't look like a scary list to me. Very light on air/scouts/activations.

Had any of your opponents played you before? I've found that lack of experience with new opponents in general tends to lose people games. The more you play different people with different armies the better idea you get on how your army works.

the first eldar player admitted before the game that he only played against orks and his list was definitely somewhat suboptimal. Heck, he had 2 units of 3 fire prisms.

The necron game the opponent went against the wrong side of the line (had he gone against the infantry side of the line he probably would have rolled me) and lost the strategy roll for turn 1 to boot.

The third game I was surprised I won because i lost 3 regular russes AND the commissar Baneblade to dangerous terrain (I stupidly chose the board edge that had a trench line in it).

There's certainly nothing broken about the list you used.

It does look as though you were a victim of a poor scoring system, where players are forced to rank opponents in order for sportsmanship. Here you were a victim of your battlefield (table) success , players would have had to choose 1st,2nd and 3rd so the biggest defeat will usually be placed 3rd.

As for Army composition, you would probably have been voted 1st in almost any other tournament.

It does come across as a little bit of "sour grapes".

yeah. there were 2-3 other IG lists and one of them was a Minervan list and both other lists had at least a full company formation of artillery.

The other thing that made the Necron game interesting was that turn 1 had a blanket -1 penalty to all shooting attacks across the board.

The fact that you didn't win overall with those three scores is the boggling thing; bizare scoring system they use there.

I'll just reiterate that there's nothing wrong with that list, in fact I'd say it's light on activations and lacking in aircraft, making it verging on sub optimal if anything.

I'd agree there isn't anything power gamy about that list.

what happened is there was a battle points based on number of objectives. 19/16/12/8/4 I think.

Then sports was 6/4/2 based on where your opponents ranked you 1/2/3 and comp was 3/2/1 likewise.

I played in the event as well and I don't think your list is broken. However, remember how the scoring system worked, you had to pick a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for comp and sports. I thought all my opponents were great but I still had to put them in a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position for sports, same for comp. Comp is highly dependent on who else your opponents play and what they think of the other armies they faced....

yeah. I showed the guy who was running it the way most of the other events running it did sports and it will be changing for next year. the majority of the other lists use checklists as opposed to a rank like this.

Not at all a broken list. In fact, it actually looks kinda weak to me!

Yeeeeeeah I'm going to have to comment on this one because the entire story is not being told here.

I was also at the EA event at Adepticon and I also happen to be Lordgoober's last opponent. From what I understand the scoring was pretty close between Matt A., Lordgoober (Robert...if I'm right?), and myself (Jay). Something like a 7 points difference or something like that between the 3 of us? I belive the scoring system was 40 pts battle, 25 sportsmanship, 25 appearance and 10 background & composition for a total of 100.

Your list was fine. It was all the proxy stuff that you had to explain to your opponents before the game started that probably made your comp and sports scores low. Not only was is it confusing to remember, it was confusing to look at.

My one and only mistake for your game would have been at the very beginning and not striking the manticores in the first turn. Lost a formation of falcons and a Revenant to suppression for two turns. It was all kinda down hill from there. It was actually close until turn 4, then I had nothing to keep you from training out what was left of your tank company across my side of the board. What a difference 8 missed MW 3+ shots and 20 4+ AT shots makes...

Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda...Oh well, lessons learned right?

I wouldn't complain though. You got to keep all the prizes did you not?
