Turn 2


The Trygons surface.


The Lictors teleport in and break immediately with four 1s...


The Terminators teleport in no problem.


The OB hits the BTS and takes out a Gaunt.


The Retinues hit dirtside behind my screen.


The Pinpoint attack scores two hits and a crit on the Dom, breaking her.


A retinue retains and engages the BTS.


Thanks to some support from the Exocrine the BTS kills 2 dreads and marines while loosing two gaunts.


The BTS wins by two.


The Exocrine sustain on the Retinue, taking out two Dreads.


The Stealers retain and engage.


Five Marines and four stealers go down.


The Stealers break but wipe the retinue out.


The Terminators attempt to sustain, fail with reroll and fire on the Harridan's gargoyles killing them all and breaking her.


A Swarm engages the armor.


No losses were suffered and the 'nids win by 1.


The Hellblades lay a BM on the Swarm and Trygons.


A Swarm doubles and lays a BM on the Warlord, attempting to distract it from the Dom.


The Hellblades hit the Lictors which make two saves. One is hacked down.


The BTS doubles on the broken retinue and takes out a stand.


The Warlord sustains on the Lictors and they make a save and an invulnerable saves. One is hacked down.


A Swarm marches over to grab a T&H.


The BTS engages the Swarm.


The bugs manage to take out two Defilers but break. One Warrior survives.


A Swarm doubles into a support position on the Chosen.


The Trygons engage.


Two Marines go down for a Trygon DC and the 'nids wipe them out in resolution.

One Terminator and two brood go down.


Two more brood are hacked down and the Terminators win.


A Swarm engages the BTS.


One to one.


The 'nids hack down three, leaving a Vindicator.


A Swarm doubles.


The Hellblades straffe the Trygons laying a BM.


The Armor doubles away from the support.


The Trygons double to support.


The Warlord sutains on the broken Lictors who make two invulnerable saves... one is hacked down.


A Swarm doubles to break the armor. We called the game here as the 'nids had BTS and T&H.

this game sounds like the "dice of Dave" vs. the "dice of Matt", with the inevitable consequences..

The part about the lictors teleporting in and breaking on 4 1's (immediately after I literally said, "roll four ones") was the highlight of this game for me. Of course, after that they were bullet-proof.

To be fair, there was a fair amount of bad luck for Dave in this one (in addition to the 4 1's). I also learned that just because you have it, doesn't mean it should be used; in this case, dreadclaws. I'll leave the drop army lists at home for the foreseeable future...

embarrassingly, I found that just after I wrote that post and you're right, I forgot about those Lictors breaking. Oh to be a fly on Dave's shoulder at that moment!

I thought the drop was fine, I think you just lost the initiative after that assault (with all that 'nid support too). I guess the only thing you could have done would have been to put the retinue that assaulted the 'nid BTS on OW then used it to support an assault by the other retinue/ termies.

The Lictors breaking (that's the second time Matt has said that and its happened in the past 2-3 months), them the Dom and the Harridan never rallying... The dice weren't up to their usual standards this game, but we've been using the same dice for most of our playtests anyway.

I thought Matt was going to jump my Exocrine after the drop but I think the BTS sitting right next to his Retinue was a bigger threat in his mind.

I've found using armor in a drop list is pretty difficult. If I'm spending all those points to drop I usually try to maximize what I can drop and have mobility/assault orientated stuff on the ground (or arty). Without troops on the ground to protect armor they're too vulnerable to assaults in my opinion.
