Take a look at the list I've posted, do you see anyone mistaking it for anything else?

IMO: Having the list exist as standard will work - yes. Having one rule (and only 1) that represents the feeling of the army, will take it that one step further and make it special. :)

I've introduced a special rule (or at least a significant note) for the Patriarch already; while he's alive the army has +1 to rally, when he dies they all take a BM.

I’m not terribly comfortable with having Leman Russes and Basilisks in there, but I guess I always thought of genestealer cults earlier in the process, with more sneakiness - garrisons, ‘teleport’ from manholes, tunneling transports - and large numbers of poorly armed troops. At the least I would’ve expected to see a limit of one support formation per core.

And for some silly reason I’m envisioning transports as the dump trucks from Soylent Green.

For war engines I’m picturing repurposed industrial or construction equipment (chemical warfare?), but I’m not even sure what I mean by that, or what would be used inside a hive. You wouldn’t use those giant (and awesome) earthworks machines in hives. Though if we’re talking about Basilisks and aircraft I guess we’re doing some outdoorsy stuff anyway.

I did forget about this. However look below for some more ideas that go a little further than a 1 unit reliance.

--------

Rather than waiting till I have time to type up the GW text, I thought I would write the summary here and get it out of my head

So far we have the Chaos Cultist list. The GS Cult list is different to this in the way of relationship.

Where the Chaos Cult are disillusioned (or enlightened) individuals, they do have a sense of self preservation (depending on what influence controls them), so no special rule is required as the sounds and effects of war impact them the same as any standard unit.

The Genestealer Cult are different in the way that they are all family to some extent, and those that are newly inducted are so mesmerized that they know nothing of self preservation.

Now I am not talking Fearless – I have made my point clear in respect of that rule. So what do I propose as the one special rule?

Name is not important, however Fanatical would suit for these purposes. Fanatical would be army wide.

Idea 1
Fanatical: Units with this special rule ignore Blast Markers for anything other than determining whether a formation breaks or not

Idea 2
Fanatical: Units with this special rule require twice as many blast markers to be suppressed or break

Idea 3
Fanatical: Units with this rule automatically rally in the end phase

Personally I like the first idea best, however I can understand that people may be opposed to it for no other reason than they think (have a jaded opinion) it may be too powerful. If you take into account the limited support and fire options this army has, as well as no air force, I see it as a necessity to being competitive. The Genestealer Cult is a mass of infantry moving towards the enemy. It is not specialized (other than the ‘Inner Circle’ or their limited Fire teams), and it is certainly not guided by Imperial or Codex stratagem. Having a rule to represent the fanatical nature of the GS Cult is a necessity IMO.

I think that should be enough for now ;)

Idea 1: The idea of not being suppressed by BMs is an interesting one, but I don't like the fact that it means the opponent can't prep them for an assault. That's just taking tactics out of the game.

Idea 2: ATSKNF by another name, and they're just not space marines.

Idea 3: An extention of the rule I already have.

I think for now the +1 to rally will suffice as a way of showing how fanatical they are, but will consider further special rules down the line if they prove neccessary.

This is an interesting point. Rather than having set formations for these, would the list work by having such items piecemeal throughout the force (upgrades rather than formations?).

I understand if it just would not work for a list design...

Yeah, list balace does factor in here; a list that's nothing but infantry with upgrades will suck, and be totally unvaried.

As mentioned before, this list represents a cult in full uprising, using everything they've infiltrated. Honestly, the cult at an earlier stage makes no sense in epic as it wouldn't be fighting pitched battles.

Yeah, good points. I just don't want it to feel like an IG list; ironically, Leman Russes could become more common in GS Cult armies than IG because of the more manageable unit size.

Just thought I'd note I'm well underway writing the story, and would be very interested in aquiring any artwork people have made of Sisters of Battle, Genestealer Cults, Tyranids or Hive Cities.

Artwork of redemptionists, priests and imperial and tyranid ships would be nice too.

Mr Z

Was there any further update or work done on the Genestealer Cult list?

*UPDATE*

I've got back to working on the supplement, and as a taster, here's an update on the Genestealer Cult list.

@zombo, fantastic it looks like a really fun army. Especially for people that enjoy fluff and would like a niche army like this. I know i would.

Agreed. Looks very promising. One question: This is pretty much the LatD approach to renegade guards/PDF. Have you considered Baran or other sources for units, to get a more rag-tag, lightly equipped rebel feeling? Again, this depends on how your story develops.

For instance, Siegfrieds, Platform artillery and AA, Buggy scouts.

I also miss the "sneaky" element of a Cult uprising. Are you going to include scenarios to play around with?
