You are correct. See EA 4.2.4 "Flak Attacks", paragraph 4.

There are two aspects to AA fire that may not be clear here:-

Ground AA
As SG says, if the A/c passes through the arc and range of ground AA, it can be shot at even if the a/c is now elsewhere. This is determined on a unit by unit basis, so it is quite possible for a formation with two ground AA units in it to have one fire after the A/c approach move, and the other to fire when the A/c disengages.

'Flying' AA
Once an A/c has completed its activation and is now 'flying' over the Battlefield, it may use its AA against another enemy a/c that stops within arc and range. It is this aspect that Neal's FAQ was intended to answer.
Note, this concept also helps provide a form of escort capability; some Tbolts are used to ground assault a target, and subsequently the Marauders come in and are placed so that enemy a/c on CAP that try to attack them fly into the arc of the 'defending' TBolts.

Hooray! Reading comprehension FTW! Yes, Ground AA (Flak Attacks) and Aircraft AA work slightly differently. Sorry for the confusion.

Where in the rulebook does it say the A/C has to stop in range and los/arc of the AA-firing A/C? Can't seem to find it..

4.2.2 Aircraft Attacks

"... Aircraft are assumed to be flying high enoughin the air to ignore any terrain that might block line of sight when they shoot at any targets, and the Crossfire rule does not apply to aircraft attacks. This aside, resolve the attack using the normal shooting rules." (Emphasis mine)

Ergo, range and arc of fire apply as normal.

It is stated in 4.2.4 - refer to Neal's attempt at a FAQ on this precise subject a few posts up the thread.

The confusion lies in the apparent contradiction between this and the earlier statement that ground AA can shoot at a/c passing through their arc and range.

Yep. The section on "fly by" AA attacks specifically states that ability is available to ground units. It doesn't apply to aircraft AA.

4.2.4, last paragraph, first sentence (emphasis added): "Ground units that are armed with AA weapons can shoot at enemy aircraft as they move past them."

In our last Tourney i uses a formation of NetEA Marauders. They performed quite good and i see them now (250pts, 3BP each) totally worth their cost.
And we played without AA-Umbrella.
