They do look like the last set of minis, just repackaged. But, that was kind of what I was expecting anyway. Has the Hunter changed design from the preview on the web page? I will have to sort out a pre-order after Christmas... the rule book and probably some Chimeras as well. The rest can probably wait for a while, as I have plenty of minis to be getting on with.

Quote (Markconz @ 23 2003 Dec.,11:04) | Quote (vanvlak @ 23 2003 Dec.,10:57) | Quote (Markconz @ 23 2003 Dec.,01:10) | 4 Stands of Stormboyz in a boxed set when you need 6 for a detachment ? |
One word: scenery
Pile up some ruined buildings or rubble or a tree or something in one corner of the stand, and use less than 5 Stormboyz on it (shock, horror) ? Then distribute your 20 Stormboyz amongst the 6 required stands. ? If you have extra Orks, the odd stand-in gretchin or boy won't look amiss - these ARE Orks, after all. ? |
Yes, but stormboyz are the one formation in the ork army that are supposed to be as regular and trained as humies ? | Another 4 (well, 5) words: camouflage casualties rokkit packs fluff
camouflage - they're hiding behind those boulders! casualties - this IS a wargame, some of them got offed. rokkit packs - yes, there were 5, but those rokkit packs can be SO erratic! fluff - the WH40K fluff has dropped most (if not all) of their organizationality
sneeky cheers

Much of the models are as we were told, "doppelgangers" of E40K. However, I'll definitely be buying the new stuff! ?
And selling off the extras at cost! ?
I should change my call sign to Ferengi 4 or Quark!

Right, to correct and confirm - I've seen the models - held them in my hands, and glued Orks together.
Land Raiders are ?12 for 4, not ?20. As shown on the label on the Blister Pack.
Chimeras will be ?12 for 7 in a boxed set.
Guard Infantry Companies are made up of Valhallans, but painted Brown or Grey look close enough to the trenchcoated Steel Legion or grim Death Korps infantry. Each box will contain 24 Infantry units, 4 Ogryns, 4 Snipers and 4 Officers, which can be made as Commissars, Supreme Commanders or Command.
|
Land raiders are 20 pounds and I have phoned to double check and as for the Guard infantry I havent found those on the advance orders yet.

It's the rulebook not the models that is my real problem, as I've got a lot of the models already. I was hoping for ?15 or more probably ?20. ?25 seems like a ripoff and is putting me off getting it to be honest.
BTW I've seen in a few places that the Land Raider are actually 8 for ?20. I'll still be sticking with my legions of plastic ones though.

Hi!
25 pounds, about 40 dollars US is definitely on the costly side. But remember that this is largely determined by how many copies they are printing. I suspect the higher cost is due to less copies being printed for release.

What are we really getting from the rulebook? We can already download the rules, most of the models we've already seen, the paint jobs on the new models arent the best they've done. . .

Well as promised months ago, it does not appear in GW Oz Advance Orders section.
Adding O/S shipping, that makes an already expensive list untenable. Apart from the Rulebook, I'll be holding right back no matter how much I want things. Apart from a few new additions to the range, my old faithfuls will have to do me for awhile at least...

Other than Chimera's and Leman Russ Companies, I don't think I'll be buying much from the new range...that is until the Valkyrie comes out!
Other than these, it's FW all the way!
Cheers

I just noticed that there is a note on the advanced order section of the Imperial Guards that the Infantry Platoon (anyone know exactly what this is?) will be available mid-January. Does this mean available to buy, available to pre-order and released with the other minis, or available to pre-order and released later than the other minis?
Also, if I pre-order, does anyone know if I can add to it later? I want to pre-order the rules before I spend the money, but I may want to add the IG infantry later and I dont want to pay double postage.

Hi!
If the rulebook is perceived as expensive and the book is still free to download, I'm afraid many will just bypass buying the book.
While I beleive GW has shown extraordinary good faith in offering the download, business-wise it may not be a good move.
We'll see....

It's worked well for Bloodbowl. Thier rulebook is about $25 US for about half of what will be in the EA rules, and is fully downloadable. Also, according to Jervis, GW France has been able to show a strong correlation between free downloads and miniature purchases (though I can't remember which rules they had online - BFG maybe?).
To me, that sounds like a 2 out of 2 record, so I'd probably give it a shot if I were Jervis, too.

Hi all, well I just advance-ordered it. I have a number of reasons: 1 - I like to collect Epic rulebooks - dumb, perhaps, but someday they'll be of great value (ever the optimist), more than a bundle of draft-printed pdfs. 2 - I'm guessing there will be more to the book than the pdfs - an advert I guess - but I'd never know otherwise. 3 - I'm a sucker.

I have made an order myself, couldnt help it.
Not sure whats the deal with the infantry. Does that mean they arent for order til mid -jan or that you can order them over the phone or that they just havent got the time to stick it on the web site yet?
