Well, you know I have at least once, the Sunday after NEAT III.V. I never did find it. Fortunately it was a die I found at The Time Machine. I might have one or two times in the past while playing Epic. I'm positive there were other times in the past when I was young, probably playing an Avalon Hill game.

Never. Snapped a few of those bendy GW stick ruler things though – but out of absent minded carelessness rather than rage (bit of string and some selloptape and they can be used as improvised bow and arrow as well...) ::)

Twice today. ;D

Red Corsairs vs Orks

First occasion, after a crappy start, I Intercepted his Fighter Bommers with Hellblades. He kills one with the AA, and I hit 3 times. 3 saves. Then pass Initiative, and he has his Stompa Mob fire at a Bike Formation that was primed for an assault on a Blitz Brigade. 7 hits, 6 dead. Dice flung.

Second situation, I have two Raptors (with Champion), assault a broken (2GW+1FW) Blitz Brigade. He rolls 2 hits. I fail both. I roll to hit, 3x2's. Dice flung again.

Adding to the overall desertion of dice, I had 2 sets of Havoks manage a single hit in the Firefights they participated in, and a potentially game losing "I need two activations on 2+, and I have a Supreme Commander" end almost in tragedy. Only noticing that I still had an empty Thunderhawk (I air assaulted, and with support fire, took out his contesting Blitz guard) allowed the win.

i have never thrown dice. ever. it's uncivilised. if someone threw dice near me, they would recieve a fairly thorough calling out, and i would complain to the TO or store owner. that kind of shit is just plain not acceptable behaviour. if you are unhappy with your dice, you bitch and moan about it, and you use other dice.

on the other hand, my favourite dice story was a guy at a LGS, he's grabbed some dice from the store supply (i dont recall if he bought them before or after)
and he's rolling low all game. as in, below average on every dice. after 4 turns, he discovers that he's been rolling d3's (as in, d6's with 1-3 printed twice) the whole game.
he calmly picks up the dice, walks out the front of the store, and hurls the dice across the street and into the river.

(that i can handle, because he's not endangering persons or property.

And he didn't notice? I think I'd notice that I never saw a six, even in my hand.

Ditto. Acceptable if you're 14 or something.

Meh. As long as it's not truly ill-tempered, there's nothing wrong with it. Unleashing streams of profanity, becoming a grumpy Cad, or berating or belittling your opponent, are all worse signs of incivility, IMO. And I see (and hear about) that more often from tournaments and at games stores.

Typically my dice throws are met with laughs from my opponent, so where's the harm done?

In the UK tourneys one of the more frequently heard phrases is "Shtupid Game!!"

Is it really wise imply that folks who are high-strung enough to throw things uncivilized and childish? :P

I'm joking, of course.

I never threw dice, but one time (when I was 18) I stomped on a entire tactical squad of marines during a 2nd edition game of 40K...not my most shining moment... :'(

On the flip side of it all, my opponent, my friends and the store owner immediately started laughing, which carried over to some of the store patrons and then myself. It was pretty absurd. I'm proud to say that incident cured my stupidity. ;D

Mind you he also suggests you need to establish whether they are 'left-handed' or 'right-handed' and treat them accordingly, and invariably tries to ricochet them of a convienient hill to ensure they behave :D

Don't forget that it is also rumoured that I sing them to sleep every night which I refute.

It's only the 3 nights before a tournament actually

First I think we need to define what is hurling and what is throwing, just kidding ;D

I have, on rare occasions, calmy tossed an offending dice over my shoulder with the words 'Next' calmy following the event.

More often I just give my figures a resounding pep talk before a critical assault or other such important event. Failures are usually followed by a demerit mark on the index card, connected with the formation, and a threat to the commanding officer. (Yes I have index cards for all of the formations in all my armies with commanders names, and formation names/numbers. Yes I am a bit crazy, but you know if you do that they do take on a life of their own, and have 'histories' that actually seem to match their performance on the gaming table. I do suspend the use of these cards for playtest games, for the sake of their commanding officer's lives.)

More objectionable to me are the groaners/winers/lawyers whom cannot get beyond the fact that this is supposed to be an enjoyable game.

I was judging a WRG tournament and one 'lawyer/whiner' was behind in points in his battle. He then came up with a 'brilliant' new tactic to save the battle. When I told him he could not use this brilliant new bent over double rules interpetation of his own devising, he whined "well nothing in the rules says I can't do it." "Ok," I replied "then I will allow you to use that tactic BUT I also now declare your opponents entire army is now armed with AK-47s firing at ten times the rate as a Long bow on the charts." He then stopped himself in mid sentence with, "But there is nothing in the rules about......" He lost and deservedly so.

Worse a player at the same tournament was ahead in points, but also saw the writing on the wall if the battle continued. First he tried asking for constant rules interpetations, which, after the third one in ten minutes, I told him he would be penalized for stalling (It was in the tournament rules and I could declare it) He then resorted to the bathroom as his saviour, I am no youngster and not even my kidneys are that bad. After 45 minutes, and two warnings, he was decalred the loser.

Fortuantely my gaming friends are all real easy going, and we have tons of laughs over each of our 'dice failures.' Unfortunately I refuse to play in tournaments anymore (I have 40k Orks Bad Moonz with only one vehicle a Dread) because of the constant moaning and whinning of those whom cannot get beyond the fact this is a game we should be enjoying.

To me the least of my worries is when one of my gaming friends tosses his offending dice across the room into a garbage recepticle, plinko style flicks one of them off the table, or calmly tosses one of these cubes of justice over his shoulder. Just as long as it isn't hurled across the room at the speed of sound followed with a loud vulgarity. They never do so it is fine with me.

Have fun gaming all, and that is an order ;)
