Hi all,
I'm new to epic but have always liked the idea of commanding a vast army and crushing my foes under the tred of tanks.
so I though the logical army for me is the IG. I haven't played a game of epic but have had a few games of the great BFG.
Would any one be able to help/guide me in the creation of my IG army? I now i need to have a few games to really Get it right, but for now the therery will have to do.
Well here's what i think will be a effective and flexable 3k IG army.

1xMech Inf
-Griffin
-Flac

1xTank Plat
-Inf Unit+chimers
-Tank squad/demo's
-Flac

1xSuperheavy tank company/ Was going for 3 shadowswords, but have 1 shadow and 2 banes for now.
-Storm Troopers+valkyries
-Ogryns/ just for some close wombat

2xWarhound Titans/ for quick reaction to armour and Mech Inf


Well that's it for now. I do have some manticore's and am very tempted to use them for the added BP wich will be a great help for suppressing formations.
Any suggestions?

I think you have misunderstood the army selection system. You pick companies (superheavies, tanks, infantry). Each company can have upgrades added to it (up to three). These are things like Ogryns, demolishers, etc etc. Then each company lets you have support formations. Such as Manticores or Stormtroopers. These are seperate formations. You may then have up to a 1/3 of your points spent on allies - Titans and aircraft. Each titan or warhound pack is one unit and each squadron of aircraft is one unit.

An example army would then be

500 points Supreme Commander
50 point upgrade - Hydra

400 points mechanised company
150 point upgrade - Firesupport and chimera to tranport them
50 point upgrade - Hydra

500 points Superheavy company - 2 shadowswords and 1 baneblade

200 points Stormtroopers
150 points upgrade Valkries

150 points Hydra battery

150 points roughrider squadron

275 Warhound

275 Warhound

150 Thunderbolt pair

9 activations

Note its not a good army, just an army!

If you want tanks you are probably best off going with a tank army. There is one in raiders and one in the epic-uk site

Thanks for the advise peeps. I'n response to the army selection it's all done by the book, well the EPIC ARMAGEDDON HANDBOOK 2008 hopefully its the correct version, if not please tell me.

The 'official' (according to GW anyways) changes to the book list Steel Legion are as follows.

Formation Cost Changes: Marauder Bombers 250pts

Change Deathstrike to having IDF

Chnage Baneblade weapons to:
Main Battle Cannon: 75cm AP3+ AT3+
Demolisher Cannon: 30cm AP3+ AT4+ IC FF
Autocannon: 45cm AP5+ AT6+
x2 Lascannon: 45cm AT5+
x3 Heavy Bolters: 30cm AP4+

For my two cents, if you really want a dead mean IG Tank Army then go with the Minervan Legion list in the Epic Raiders supplement. I have used it and it is a tread heads dream come true.

That looks okay although you're making the fundamental error of having the two most expensive formations at exactly the same cost. In the often used Grand Tournament scenario you get a victory point for destroying the opponent's most expensive formation (called the Break Their Spirit or BTS for short goal). If someone has 2 equally priced most expensive formations then either can be destroyed for the BTS goal. So it's best to have only 1 as it makes it harder for your opponent. Besides that, seems a good list. Most people add Thunderbolts to reach the spots the Hydras don't reach though.

I always find that a Supreme Commander is worth the points; That also gets you to a single BTS formation as wisely recommended.

To find points, I'd consider losing the SHT company and supplementing with aircraft instead. It would increase your activation count too, 8 activations seem a tad low to me.

so what if I loose the sents and get a supreme commander?

Scouting formations are valuable for screening, and losing the sentinels would have the side effect of losing an activation. At least one of those formations is teleporter bait. Getting the reg hq is a good suggestion - basically the same thing as a mech coy, but with a SC.
