I apologise if already posted but is the above the new EA with it's mass infantry, orbital strikes and war machines? Understandably the system of play is different but with EA seemingy being abandoned by GW, Apoc does seem to have a lot of similarities to EA.

Thanks

Rob

Well, where to start...

As it is the custom to say, in E:A you don't have armies sneaking up on each other until they're 15m apart.

Better armies, cheaper ones, models unheard of in 40k, much better rules, very pleasant community... And a 20k wh40K game still put much smaller armies on the table than a 20K epic game. And I love 6mm. And there are only marines in 40K.

And the community does provide PLENTY of support for the game.

Totally agree with that Rasta, I think GW do see Apoc as the replacement for epic yet you really do have to have a deep pocket to buy some of the units etc.

Also, since I haven't seen it mentioned yet, you can finish a game of epic in 3 hours.

No, Apoc is to give players something to aim for once they've finished their first army.

Most people buy a 2000pt list, build and paint most of it and then start thinking about another army (not neccesarily a 40k one though).
Apoc is designed to 'reward' the veteran players with multiple armies, as well as encourage people to buy 1-off super-heavies, or a few extra tanks for that big battle that's coming up.

Epic starts at that level, and is thus actually playable, if sometimes less cinematic.

Apocalypse is the new Epic... for children.

Yep, the rules simply do not compare in subtlety and tactical complexity. EA is a much superior game. And Apocalypse is not more cinematic, it looks silly and cramped to me. Read a battle report of it in WD and just laughed out loud at the photos. EA is a real war game, it even has a ground scale for starters...

Apoc is the Epic for short-sighted people who can't deal w/ the smaller models. Or kids who want their toys to all be action-figure size.

Apocalypse is a bunch of Epic formation deployed in spitting distance from each other with the addition of some funky rules for whole formations who carry out an Engage action all at once. :D
Off course you also need a shovel to remove casualties.

Apocalypse: Spend 2 hours setting up, then roll to see who goes first. Whoever goes first wins.

I feel that Apocalypse is just a way of trying to entice people to spend even more money on 40K once they have put together a 'finished' regular army. It certainly isn't a replacement for Epic in terms of the way in which the game works, and, to my mind, it simply takes too long to set up, is rather impractical (owing to the size of the board which you need), and lacks the tactical and strategic aspects offered by Epic.

Aye and I imagine trying to store everything or transport it is a pain. Let's see a typical apocalypse army that GW wants everyone to have comprises of; a Warhound titan, two full marine battles companies (Marines of course as everyone plays them these days and everyone know that 40K is Marine Vs Marine. What was that? Eldar? Never heard of them), half a dozen land raiders, two dozen rhinos, land speeders, bikes, etc etc etc!
