Well, tomorrow at 8pm, the Desert Ferrin make their combat debut at my local club in a fight against the Marines. I'm sure its just a minor misunderstanding - the Ferrin are loyal... Honest.... ?}:)

Anyway, I need a 3K army list for the battle, and here's what I was thinking. I'm not sure if we're using flyers, so theres one list with, and one without. I wanted a variet of units to playtest since I havent played in months rather than a sure of winning force. ?

With Air Support:
Regimental HQ (1 commander, 12 guard stands, 7 Chimeras) (500 points)
Upgrades: Fire Support w/chimeras (150points), griffon battery (100 points)

Tank company (650 points)

Artillery Company (9 manticore, 650 points)
Sentinel Squadron Support formation (100 points)

Infantry Company (250 points - garrison)
Upgrades: Flak (50 points) Fire Support (100 points)

2 Thunderbolts (150 points)

2 Marauders (300 points)

Without Air Support
Regimental HQ (1 commander, 12 guard stands, 7 Chimeras) (500 points)
Upgrades: Fire Support w/chimeras (150points), griffon battery (100 points)

Tank company (650 points)

Artillery Company (9 manticore, 650 points)
Sentinel Squadron Support formation (100 points)

Infantry Company (250 points - garrison)
Upgrades: Fire Support (100 points)

Super Heavy Tank Company (3 baneblades - 500 points)

Your thoughts and alterations are very welcome.
Units I have available are from the speed IG project and can be seen on This thread

Let me know! & I'll post a game review later in the week ?

Is the game type known?  I mean, objectives and such.  Or is it a straight up fight, to the death?  If there are no objectives, then your lists look good to me.  If you have to go get something, you may want to bring some rough riders or storm troopers.

Just my 2cents

I know it's too late, but my preference would have been to take the formation of Thunderbolts and spend the 250 from the Marauders on something else, like a formation of infantry or a Bombard battery, or even an SHT.

So...

Give us the report, Tuff.  We're anxiously awaiting.   The suspense is killing us. :p

Well, I got totally anihilated. ?:D

The guy I was meant to play didnt show, but luckily another playtester (Mark Norfolk) had heard that we were planning a game and came along to spectate. Like all good epic players, he apparently always carries an army with him so I ended up playing him instead!

Only downside was that He had 3000points Orks which included a Great Gargant & I sure as hell wasnt ready for it!

It was a great game, but I hadnt realised how much I'd forgotten since my last real playtests & how much had changed.

RHQ were the only formation after 5 turns or so that werent dead or running. They took out a blitz brigade & harassed a large mechanised mob. Unfortunately the mechanised mob got by me to do item 2....
My manticore company had 1 effective turn of shooting where they rained hell on a blitz brigade but then did little other than died miserably.
My leman Russ company hammered the Gargant well for the first two turns but then failed to do anything on turns 3&4.
Infantry company died quicker than I could find the blastmarkers under intense fire from the gargant, a Biggunz mob & a large infantry mob.
My Sentinels tought me a valuable lesson - Sentinels are pants. I'll be painting some rough riders ASAP to take their place.
And I wasted my Baneblades with a mixture of bad rolling & giving in to the "fear of the big thing" & targetting the Gargant with them which was a big mistake - they achievd little bit could have done serious damage to a Mechanised mob on their flank with their weaponry if I had engaged my brain.

Overall, I lost the game for myself but he won it well also - I was annihilated.

The Desert Ferrin simpy weren't prepared for the initial Ork onslaught - they will be more organised & better ommanded next time!

Sounds like a great game :), do you have any Shadow Swords painted up for the next time someone pulls out a Titan/Praetorian on you?

Unfotunately no, I'm still waiting for the replacement stormblades / missing turret to be sorted then they'll be my "count as".

I do have a couple of shadowswords on my "paint to sell" list, but I'm getting more tempted to strike them off as a "loss" day by day  }:)

I've also got a few reavers & the new Fanatic Warhound which will eventualy be added (all in legio ignatum colours - not Steel Monoliths  :o!) but they may take some time!

Nice report, I liked your initial force, but yeah, a shadowsword or two in every guard tourney list is probably a good idea.

I'm interested in how the manticores performed.  During playtesting I suggested to Jervis that he give basilisks back the direct fire ability they had early in playtesting, and as the bombards had ignore cover ability, why not give manticores disrupt abililty? Lo and behold, a couple of days later they had it!  Not that I had actually playtested it yet
Still, I think it was a reasonable suggestion, each artillery type has a distinct battlefield role now.

I'm interested in how the manticores performed. ?

For their part, they performed well. Turn 1 they opened and I fired 6 out of the 9 at a large blitz brigade (holding 3 for turn 2).The end result was 1 BM short of breaking the unit on my first activation of the game.

However, by the time I fired the last 3 in turn 2, an Ork mob was already within 15cm & they'd taken 2 BMs so only 1 could fire. I let them down rather than them letting me down (not helped by lousy sentinels... useless walkers....... :p )

I do like the fact that each unit has its own role - the problem now being that each company now really needs to be of a single type or the special abilities are lost.

However, I have considered fielding 3 basilisk with 6 manticores if there's a good chance of getting them setup on a hill or other terrain. Put the Manticore behind & the basilisk on the front of the hill & use them on direct fire to tank snipe incoming formations whilst the manticores blast away with their disrupt barrages - I need to read the rules again to make sure its OK, but it sounds like the most useful combination where all units would come into play.

Sounds like a good time and that the E:A rules are quite workable !  :;):

Yep, I have to admit to being a closet Epic:A fan boy - it is a great system :D.

I believe that E:A is Jervis's best Epic effort !  :;):

** I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky...** ahem, sorry in a rather good mood at the mo ;).

@Legion: I totally agree, it is a superb blend of the SM2 and E40k system providing the best of both systems with a flash of originality and inspiration!

Yes, there is even a little SM1 in the mix ... as in any evolution, things should get better and it appears this is the case ...   :;):

Jervis does have many decent games on his roll of honor, it must be admitted. Like Epic A and Blood Bowl, for example. BTW, who designed Man o' War? Rick Priestley? Or Jervis?
