Hello again Epic Community! ;D

I've been thinking about this subject for a while now and I'm still on the fence about Eldar Aspect Warriors. Yes I do plan on using them, so we can forget talk of Guardian formations (even though I will be using them).

I've decided to use more than one aspect per formation because I feel like the formation would benefit more that way. Why use one specialization when you could use two. Right? I'm kinda leaning either Dire Avengers/Fire Dragons or Dark Reapers/Striking Scorpions. Just depending on either being offensive or static.

So to make a long story short (or just explaining my twisted thinking), what's your favorite Eldar Aspect formation and why?

I like using Dark Reapers and Striking Scorpions/Banshees. 3/5 or 4/4 ratio. But some Aspect are better left to them selves, mainly Warp Spiders and Swooping Hawks. They both have 35cm and even mix together you lose the Spiders ability to Teleport.

A lot of people use Wave Serpents to get Aspect into combat, but I usually use Wraithgates instead. Main reason are I don't have any WS and I rather spend the money else where. But I use at least the Wraithgate Objective and one Storm Serpent. So I don't have a probably getting them around. Plus your opponent can't hurt them till they already hit there mark.

Don't really have a favourite because they all have specialised roles. The ones I use most often are:-
Warp Spiders for their offensive capabilities and resilience
Shining Spears for their speed and impact against enemy Titans
Swooping Hawks for teleporting to flanks and claiming objectives
Mixed Striking Scorpions and Dire Avengers for attack and subsequent support, or better:-
3x Scorpions, 3x DA and 2x Fire Dragon Exarchs - trading resilience for better support capabilities

If mounting the Aspects in Wave Serpents, the use of shining Spears or Swooping Hawks reduces the number of WS needed, thus eking out the points a little.

About the only Aspects I do not use are Banshees, which despite the improved stats, still do not work. for best effect they need to get into B-B, but there, their armour is not adequate IMHO and their 15cm movement usually leaves them open to counter-attack and destruction ensues. This makes them a very specialised one-shot weapon.

Banshees + Warp Spiders is an effective combo, allowing you to take much of the counterpunch onto the spiders better armor.

6 Dire Avengers and 2 Dark Reaper Exarchs in Wave Serpents. A big chunk at 550 points, but it dishes out 16x 4+ and 4x 3+ FF attacks with 2 Inspiring. It can singlehandedly decimate formations, and with a rolling assault, it just gets better.

12x4+ from the Dire Avengers, 4x4+ from the Wave Serpents, 4x3+ from the Reaper Exarchs.

The most common selection for myself is 8x SS with exarchs decent amour a butt loads of decent CC attacks and in a vampire dumped onto enemy armour or mushy infantry normally.
Poor old warp spiders are still sitting in the box based with no paint, haha they mus thave dust allergies by now.

Cheers

My preferred Aspect formations comprise a mixture of Fire Dragons, Striking Scorpions and Dire Avengers. Some formations may include all three Aspects, others may comprise two, but I have found that they all work well together, dishing out effective, and varied, firepower, and being effective in an assault.

One thing I have discovered to my cost is that it's important to place the Exarchs on FF units, such as the Fire Dragons, otherwise the way hit allocation works can result in your Exarchs being killed early in the game if they part of CC units, such as Striking Scorpions.

Intruiging combination. For personal preference I like to put the stronger armour aspects up front - the difference between the 4+ and 5+ armour being ~ 1 saved aspect over 4x hits. Obviously the Wave Serpents are used to soak up initial hits, which reduces this impact

If you consider the 3x DA, 3x SScorp and 2x FD (exarchs) in Wave Serpents, you get the same number of 4+ hits with 4x 4+MW hits. It is a bit more resilient, and the ~2x MW hits can be a bit more potent than ~3 normal hits, especially on stronger armour.

But the differences between the two formations are minimal

Around here the most common hosts are:

6 DA/2 Reaper Exarchs (ranged fire and maximum FF capacity)
4-6 DA/2-4 Warp Spiders (w/ 2 Exarchs) (good armor saves from the Spiders out front)
8 Scorpions
8 Shining Spears

For lists with Aspect Troupes, Fire Dragons are taken as tank/WE hunters and Swooping Hawks are taken for harassment.

Shining Spears and Swooping Hawks are the ones that really suffer if taken in combination with any other Aspect. The others you can mix and match to your heart's content really. In fact the mixed bag of Dire Avengers, Dark Reapers, Warp Spiders, and Banshees always manages to have a use [i]someplace[/] on the board, although don't expect it to have the power hit of a specialized Aspect group.

I do like the all warp spider formation hopping out of a gate - 10 FF first strike attacks at a range of 45cm.
