people here want to play a game of Epic set in the 40k universe, and not a game of random space-lizards in an Epic ruleset. Even if they are very nice space-lizards!
I get this, and for a long time I also only had GW epic 6mm, but then I finally got some EW/DRM and once I saw the quality and price available there any need I felt to represent 40k armies just with GW minis/minis that looked just like GW stuff vanished

Changed me from only wanted 'codex' stuff to warmly welcoming all space-lizards in their various forms for what they are

Oh, I'm not against non-GW models or anything. In fact the only GW games I play any more are some of the Specialist Games - for example, the last game of 40k I had was well over 15 years ago, and I never got into WHFB or that crap excuse for a game that masquerades as a LOTR product. But if I want to play Eldar vs Space Lizards, or Orks vs Shiny Androids I can just play Future War Commander for instance (and I have EW and DRM models already to do so). However, if I play Epic, it is because I specifically want the look and feel of the 40k Universe. I imagine others probably feel the same, and if we as a community want to keep Epic alive, then we need to help out newcomers with gaps in the model range.
Anyway, I'm lucky in that I'm pretty close to having a reasonable quantity of GW Epic stuff for every army they made now, so I hope to be in the luxurious position of not being gouged ever again for the purchase of 'official' models very soon indeed. My experience of the fan-made stuff is that it is as good (or better) than the official stuff, so I will still be open to new models that are significant upgrades of old models or which are for models that were never made in 6mm. Likewise, I still look forward to cool conversions that cover existing models.
