I've used this one (what I call the "Reserve Company Special") a fair number of times:

250 Bike
Chaplain, 2 Attack Bikes
200 Bike, 2 Attack Bikes
200 Land Speeder
200 Land Speeder
275 Predator
Destructors
275 Predator
Annihilators
175 Scouts
Sniper
375 Tactical
Hunter
500 Tactical
Supreme Commander, Hunter, Razorback
250 Vindicator
300 Whirlwind

Bikes don't get cover benefits. They are Mounted so they treat terrain as vehicles, not infantry.

I never thought to consider the concealment modifier for being next to a vehicle as a "terrain effect". Weird.

My typical ground pounder force shares some traits. Lots of fast attack formations, a couple hard Tac formations for holding ground and lots of stuff that can prep/support. Recently I've been using Typhoons for fire support instead of Preds but they serve the same basic purpose - fast (though fragile) fire support. I like aircraft for AA defense, the ability to chase (prepping assaults or hitting broken formations) and the activation boost. If I am going groundpounder, it tends to look something like...

Tacs + SC + Hunter + Razorback - 500
Tacs + 3 Razorbacks - 375
2x Bikes + character - 500
2x Speeders - 400
1x Speeder Typhoons - 325
Whirlwinds - 300
2x Tbolts - 300

2700 points, 10 activations

I can personally attest to Dave's tactical abilities (not to swell his head further). He also plays armies quite differently, yet successfully, to others. For eg. who's ever played against a 11 activation Steel Legion list?

At 3000 points? All the time. In fact I don't remember a game against (or with) SL with less than 10.

fair enough, most lists I see are 9-10. Admittedly, I did take Revenants which immediately knocked my activation count down from my usual comfort zone of 12-13..

So far in every game I've played, my Supreme Commander has been part of a tactical squad and my BTS... but does it have to be that way? Do people ever put their SC in a unit of terminators or assault marines or some other unit?

Yep, when I played my Ultramarines way back, I often put my SC in one of my Termie formations to give him a bit more resilience with a RA save + Inv Save. I do try to avoid putting the SC in the BTS as it's sensible to keep him out of that formation to avoid losing him due to increased "BTS attention" i.e people are trying to kill your BTS for an objective.

Marine tactical BTS with hunter, razorback and SC seem to be blitz guard in all the marine lists I've seen at tourneys.

That being said my Black templar BTS is a tactical fm with 2 x LR crusaders, a Chaplain and emperor's champion which most certainly does not hide at the back. :D

I also think the recent increase in Reaver titans with marines allows you to split out the SC and BTS.

Reaver titans do seem to be a really good addition to a marine army. + they're BIG and STOMPY which is what epic is all about really.

In general I use lascannon Razorbacks except with Scout who get hvy bolter ones.

Just curious as to why. I would have thought giving Scouts the ability to interact with Armoured Vehicles would be more important than beefing up their already reasonable AP capabilities.
