I decided against a 'real' battle report in the corresponding section since we did not finish the game (barely) made it to round 3.
We had not seem each other for a while so initially we were small-talking and glossing over each others miniatures.
Then the actual game progressed (very) slowly due to the fact we were (are!) so unfamiliar with the rules.
Note that it was our first game. And we brought a titan and fliers.
My traitor marines
(using 'marine rules' mind you) brought the following:
1 Supreme commander
1 Tactical Squad
1 Devastator Squad
4 Land raiders
4 Whirlwinds
1 Reaver Titan
My cannonfodder, erm; valuable Allies:
(from memory so less than 100% accuracy)1x Big Warband (without transport)
2x Big Blitz Brigade (incl. 1 Oddboy each)
1x Blitz brigade (incl. 1 Oddboy)
1x Blitz brigade (plus Gun Fortress)
4x Stompa plus supa stompa
Our opponent fielded a quite impressive looking and fully painted (the git!) Steel Legion:
10x Leman Russ plus a few lighter tanks (chimera's?)
9x Basilisks (nasty buggers!)
3x Mortars
3x some other artillery (AP)
2 units of superheavy tanks with a few lighter ones added. (an even mix of Baneblades and Shadow Swords)
2 units Hydra's
a unit bombers
Zero (!) infantry.
(not painted and thus not fielded was his petty excuse.
)Long story short:
His Basilisks were worse than evil incarnate but our 9far) greater number of units made a difference.
In the first turns his bombers were chased off and shot down by the Ork air. My Land Raiders took a beating (losing 2) and a combined sustained firing of both the russes and 3 Shadow Swords left my titan down to a mere 2 hp.
Then the marine infantry, remaining Landraiders and odd Ork units plus whirlwinds proved too much.
We had to break off (the game) but his hydra's (both units) were destroyed and all of his remaining units were under a lot of fire.
One unit heavies was broken and the Russes were about to be surrounded and had 6 or 7 blast markers on them.
With marines, titan and Land Raiders in front and orks zipping past them they were in a bad spot.
Our thoughts/preliminary analysis of units/the game:
Blitz brigades should be Big or perhaps even huge.
The Reaver Titan seems to have little to offer in raw fire power.
(I am tempted to go Warlord or not at all atm)Boy; is epic FAST. (movement wise)
We'll repeat soon enough and intend to play a full game the next time.
Much helped by the fact we all read the rules once again and with the added benefit of an actual game it makes a whole lot more sense!
