Are titan CCW's worth it? At present i'm in two minds about them, although i do not have a massive xp base to draw on and am referring primarily to Imperial/Chaos configurations. On the one hand they take up a weapon slot and require b/c to use which can be problematic due to the comparitively slow move. On the other they are an excellent anti AV/WE option (not as fantastic against large WE but still nasty), a relatively low cost , and a decent assault deterrence value (few other weapons can produce as many TK attacks in one hit). What is the general opinion on this topic?

In general I find they're good at protecting your Titan from being assaulted, but aren't of great use offensively... they'll likely not see use during a game, but on the other hand, they'll force those teleporting Terminators to go and attack something else, which is nice!

It depends on the army and the titan as well.

For example, the Power Fist on my Warlock Titan is invaluable, because it's at its best when used aggressively acting as support or a spearhead for Eldar Aspect assaults, hence it's liable to get into base contact at some stage, making the close combat bonus very handy.

Titans which prefer to stand back and shoot, however, such as Warlord Titans, and to a certain extent, the Eldar Phantom Titan, are much less likely to need a close combat weapon.

Put nothing but long ranged weapons on titans( thats what I do !) ... And shoot !! Shoot your opponent's Titans at long range before they can use they're close combat weapons ... as it should be ... ::) This is futuristic warfare, Not Jousting for Crying out loud !!! :P

In EA..

Eldar titan CCWs are a valid choice, as they add CC attacks & FF attacks & still have rangerd shots.

For Imperial Titans (which means in a TL or AM list) the CCWs main use is to protect your BTS from the likes of Terminators or BL Terminators (with potentially DP or GD). Since they can teleport in and engage before you can shoot. And E&C says this is really a deterant that likely won't see use, but if that saves you BTS & Blitz its worth 2 victory points (that your opponent can't get).

It would be rare to see more than one in an army of usual sizes (2k-4k)
