Just another random thought... Maybe an alternate solution could be removing the formation due to phase out immediately rather then in the end phase?

It worked like that in V1 of the Necron list and it was horribly broken. :)

As E&C says, immediate phase-out used to be the rule, and was incredibly broken. It meant it was impossible to destroy any formation, as they immediately vanished to safety offboard as soon as they were broken. It was changed to end-phase phase-out to give the opponent a chance of killing formations while they were still on the board.

gaining a BM on using the portal would be a really really really good change, as it means the assaulting necrons wouldn't have the +1 for no BM and perhaps not the +1 for less BMs as well.

:agree:   This is my main point for posting Morgan's idea. Necrons appear to have this part quite easy. It just does not seem right if they are using a broken Monolith to potentially gain a +2 to combat before any dice are rolled..

Game specific: yes. The fact that it will happen more often than not, is enough reason for the change IMO.

Would fit.

Imagine a door which leads to a place somewhere which location and surroundings you know roughly. You open the door and are greeted by a hail of gunfire. Would be quite confusing/distratcing even if you are prepared to face this situation, wouldn't it?

If that situation isn't scary for an Eldar it certainly shouldn't be scary for a necron.

If I were human, yes, but a soulless undying sentient being made of self repairing metal with a safety net that works even if your down to a single finger wiggling around, I think would be much less apprehensive about such things. Necrons don't feel much emotion and even then it seems only to be rage against all things living which I thing would serve to make them even less affected by distractions.

even less affected by distractions.

Necron Lord: Hey, what's that noise?

Necron warrior 1: Mortals getting restless, m'lord.

Necron warrior 2: Pfft, bloody mortals.

Necron Lord: Lets wipe them out and be home for tea/metal shavings/eternal sleep!

Sou you propose that Necrons generally are immune to Blastmarkers and all gain Fearless?

That's not what he said. Again, let me repeat: If eldar don't get a BM for using a broken portal then Necrons definitely shouldn't.

My initial suggestion was that it be a change to the Portal rule, not to Necrons specifically.

That it won't have the same general problems with the Eldar/Dark Eldar Portals (due to the nature of those portals), meant it wasn't necessary to have it be anything beyond Necrons. Necrons would be hurt most by this change, only because they currently benefit most without it.
