Questions:

How did the SM player deploy?  I'm guessing this was a blind game (didn't know what the other person was bringing)?  Did the pylon take down either of the Thunderhawks?  What regeneration rules did you use?  Were they a factor?  How did you find the mechanics?

Its tough to play SMs and even tougher when you bring a one-trick pony army list against the Necrons.  I can easily see the SMs getting eaten up, especially if they deployed in a typical fashion.  IMO he would have been better off leaving the Thunderhawks empty and deploying all the infantry on the board.  T-Hawks could have evacuated badly damaged formations at that point to re-position them for turn 2 or 3.  Bring the spacecraft in for a turn 3 bombardment with a token formation and hammer the Necron backfield hard.

But once again, this is all learning curve stuff - first time against Necrons is usually brutal.

I'm just glad you posted it twice - I was meaning to read your comments again anyway.

It was a cold game

Whirlwinds middle table with bikes either side

Pylon did 1 wound on each Thunderhawk

Regen rule I used to gain 2 stands back. That's all. I used what was in Raiders 2.0. Only Mashal's taken started on the table. The Regen rule was not a factor.

Mechanics - I used what Matthemuppett taught me. The parawan surpassed the master.   :;):

Note: Pylon was on a road. Does it get a 5cm move being immobile?

No. There's a subtle yet silly difference in the rules between 0cm move and immobile. 0cm move units can gain the 5cm from road movement, immobile units can't.

Personally I don't think either should.

ha! I think that game was more an illustration of how brutal Necrons can be against an unprepared opponent (which kinda fits the fluff too) rather than any skill with Necrons on my part. I do like them though, some interesting tactical choices come up when playing them.

would make most sense to play "your" WoE or whatever the latest version, merged or not, is. More than happy to help out down the road, whatever decision you take (haven't had time to read the replies on the development thread).

I will play them again only because I have the models, and I want to give them another go. I need a solid few games with them to make a final decision. Last night's game, although memorable, was not at all fun for me or the opponent.

Thanks dude. We will stick with V2.4 (in my sig - soon to be V3 when I update the Engage rule properly) as it is definitely the most fun to play with due to the options available. V4 and V5, are in my view, just very 'ho-hum' and 'run of the mill' at this time, and not really different to what the BL can do.

Cheers...  :D

No, I was actually asking, as experience has told me that common sense does not always work in GW games.  :p

"Immobile" means it can never move, like a fortification or something built into the ground, while "0cm" move means it's not actually *fixed* to the ground, such as a field gun, so, on a smooth road, could be slowly dragged by its crew.

I think the distinction is valid and important and I like that it exists... just wish it was applied properly in all cases.
