I'm starting to think that running a tournament based on an unfinished, uncollated book is a disaster waiting to happen. I can't be the only one confused on many of these issues.

Have faith mate, ambush seems to be the only one causing much confusion.
Apologies for the lack of special rules in the events pack: i could recall them being in the relevant scenarios but was obviously wrong. I'll make sure to clear these things up as we go tommorow: any other questions just ask.

Gavin (Ginger) is right though; remember we're not running a full on competitive tournament: instead there are experimental lists and armies being allowed, and we're playtesting said unfinished rule set, at the end of the day I'm more than confident that the best player will win out the day :-)

Oh...and for anyone reading this last minute my tip for ambushees is to make your 2 contingents completely disproportionate in power: either your opponent has to target a few measly sentinels or such or, if you've got them, ends up trying to fight off stuff like gargants straight away!

Yes, another "over the ponder" looking forward to all the battle reports!

This really sounds like it's going to be a blast! Enjoy the opportunity.

Cheers,

Just gotten back, brilliant day (probably my favourite Epic gaming day that I've been to so far, if only for the greater than typical variety of armies on display!).

The non-GW venue meant that there were a lot of scratchbuild/3rd party armies armies present.

Scenarios largely ran okay, although consensus was that several could be re-written to be much clearer. Spearhead and especially Ambush were regarded as (whilst perhaps not greatly unbalanced, per se) needing work.

Ambush turned into a repeated Engagement scrum in the first 30cm of board space for 90% of players, with 80% of the board space not being used at all, and some good ideas were thrown around on how to fix it which will doubtless be related here in time.

Notable events for me was getting to play my Krieg vs. Glyn's Vraksians (Imperium greatly triumphant!), seeing all the armies in play that aren't normally allowed at UK tournaments like Tyranids, Tau and Necrons (let alone my own Krieg!), and for a hillarious "double or nothing" ten minute turn 4 of my last game versus a chap named Darren (we finished the game with 30 seconds to spare on the clock, as his Supa Stompa BTS resolutely stood defiantly alive amidst a full encirclement of Krieg men and machines!).

I came 4th overall (seems I'll never get myself a top 3 placing!), and I'm the happy owner of the "judges vote" for "best appearance" too, which was very cool!

Excellent day, hopefully this event's success will encourage more Epic events to use a wider variety of army lists (and a lesser emphasis on the "tournament scenario").

Yup,was a superb day, made all the more entertaining by the combination of forces not normally seen and scenarios no normally played.

When a man says to you "lets see if we can get the fourth turn done in the last 10 mins or call it a draw if we can't" - well, in my mind that's what toy soldiers is all about!  Despite putting about 427 blast markers (well, it felt like it anyway!) on the big Krieg detachment I just couldn't break them...

Amen to that....

=======================================

On a less enjoyable note, the day ended on a sour note when poor Ginger left the building to start the trek home, only to find his car had been broken into and a bag of his stuff stolen.  I understand all rule books, dice, gaming counters etc were lost.  My sincere commiserations Gavin, I know how much of a pain that is.

Looking forward to seeing all of you later in the year....

Cheers

Reedar/Darren

Damn that's terrible; I hope his insurance covers it?

Don't know, certainly hope so.  It's the time and effort of building up the colletcion of stuff over the years which all has to be replaced which is a pain.  Not to mention the proper copy of Swordwind that was in the bag...

Which world are you living in! I have fully comprehensive cover with bells and whisles, and a £100 excess (which is likely to be slightly less than the replacement cost); it just is not worth claiming

I'm going to post some 'have you seen' ads in the local press and online communities Gavin: did the bag have a return address or anything in it? What exactly did you lose?
I'll ask around some friends I have who live on the docks too, with luck whoever took it would have ripped it open fairly quickly to see what's inside and perhaps have discarded of it.

Given the location (yards from the river), my guess is the bag and contents will now be underwater. Fortunately there were no models in it (they took one look at the model boxes and left them alone) and given the minimal damage to the vehicle they seem to have been relatively 'professional' about it, though it is extremely irritating.

On a brighter note, as E&C says all those different armies were a grand sight, and there were lots of conversions. Luckily it did not bring a camera, so you will have to check out the photos given by others.

On the scenarios,
    Meeting
worked well, providing a nice and balanced alternative to the usual 'tournament' scenario. My only query here was than some armies could drop on the various enemy markers on the table edge. Suggested ruling is that these markers are given the relevant ZoC, and also that the second and subsequnet units entering the table may do so within 5cm of their marker.

    more on the others later

Again, MASSIVE thanks for running this MoK!  And thanks to all the participants for being my lab rats!  Sorry for the shampoo that got in some people's eyes!

If people could steer their comments/concerns/suggestions about the scenarios to the relevant Total War threads, that would be greatly appreciated.  This event was the first large scale batch of playtesting of the scenarios, which were not initially designed for tournament play, so feedback will be used to improve them!

Mistakes, misinterpretations, misconceptions, and unclear language have all played a part in things, but it's my goal to improve things in an attempt to lessen those factors.

Please follow the appropriate links here: EPIC: Total War In-Progress Scenario List

And, yes, Ambush, is probably the most complicated scenario in the book!
