So what is the best material to get from Shapeways?  (I keep calling them shipways for some reason.)

I haven't heard a peep from WGF, beyond the updates in their forum, but my fingers are crossed just like yours.

Well things don't look real good at this point ...

Black or White Detail, I believe, are objet printouts.  I do most of my production prints on objets.  More expensive, but they are good machines. You should hold off on ordering until I get in a sample I ordered from my own "store."

Otterman, what's your handle on Shapeways?

Best,
JBR

Unless Shapeways has seriously improved, the level of detail possible using white detail isn't really up to par with 6mm production. It works alright but their resolution is kind of low. That said I've got a  test piece coming from them this week so I'll see if it's improved any since they started up.

I have ordered some of Charles Oines' Irrational ship designs (which are great), but the resolution on their printer is just not suitable at the desired scale - too granular.

Understood.  I concur that Oines does some great stuff, too.  It's a shame if the print quality isn't up to the task of bringing his sculpts to life.

We'll see if my slabby little beasts turn out OK.  Fingers crossed.

Best,
JBR

I really like what JBR put together for these, but I'm done with waiting for WF to get off the dime. Since their silence is telling me they don't want my money, I'm pleased to comply.

Some guys on the WGF forum have said the same thing ...  Looks like WGF may have "dropped the ball" on this ...

Received a refund of my sprue deposit within an hour of my request. At least they "get" that part of it.

Tony did send a follow-up email, stating that there would be an update on these guys "this week". Had he just popped into their forums in the last 3-6 weeks and said something about an update "after the holidays", that would have pacified a number of people, I'm sure.  :glare:

Saw this on the WGF thread about our wayward Andriods.  I think it's called passing the buck ...     :glare:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         howardwhitehouse superstar - moderator 543 posts  Ã‚                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Hey everyone!
I've had very little to do with the Android issue  (because I know nothing of 6mm Sci Fi) but I know it's been a source of concern and consternation.
As you'll know, we are a very, very small company with limited resources in - well, everything. There are five of us, mostly working part-time. We essentially have to sell a huge amount of any given new product to be able to fund the next thing along.
We've been pleasantly overwhelmed with the success of  Liberty and Union,  a great idea which has brought us a huge amount of interest. The flipside to that is that we have a lot of things that reach 100% of our limited 1000 sprue goal faster than we can get things done. And the variety, in scales and genres, is bewildering (even if nobody ever orders 1/700 Napoleonic ships masts)
We have to assess whether something will really sell beyond a limited audience, because the L&U thousand sprues isn't enough, alone, even to pay for mould production. We can't afford to take a real bath on anything we do.
We also have the core WF theme projects to pursue. As you'll have noticed, we came into this with the object of making some of the historical ranges we really like (and which have a big market - ancients wargamers buy hundreds of each model!).
So we have lots of projects that we'd like to do, and have made progress with. Some of the moves we have made have been successful, and others have come up against a brick wall. And, since we aren't a big, established company, we can't afford to make a serious, multi-thousand dollar mistake on this stuff!
I am sure Tony (on whom all responsibility ultimately lies) will be letting you know more

I've got bored with waiting now. I'll wait this week out and see if Tony posts, but I'll be requesting my deposit back.

The "we are a small company and we are busy" line only goes so far when they have taken money. Sure they will make much more from all the 28mm lines, and I fully understand why they are working on those and not "Gods true wargames scale". Time for them to man up and admit that they won't make this sprue and end the waiting.
