I've been working on some Orkitecture. Simple and quick to produce, and effecive terrain.

Sorry about the blurry pic.

They are made out of Evergreen .040" sheet, and Evergreen square and rectangular tubes (#253 and #258). I went with a floor height of 10mm. This will not fit some of the taller minis inside, but as these are going to be intact structures (for now) this matters little. The basic unit of these buildings will be a box 42mm x 27mm x 11mm (1x1). This means a roof area of 25mm x 40mm, or enough to fit 2 square or 2 rectangular stands. The roofs have a lip 2mm in height, bringing the height of a single story structure to 13mm total.

It's hard to tell here, but the top floor has 2 40x12 bases in it.

The concept models here are 2x1+1x1. Each of these represents about 1 hr. time investment. My next will be 2x2+1x1, which shoudn't take much longer.

I plan on basing 4-6 per base, so they can be used a settlements, or cities if several bases are used together.

My paint plan is to roughcoat them, then airbrush snakebite leather with a patchy desert yellow dusting, then drybrush bleached bone, and maybe some weathering. I looked into adding some of my many spare glyphs, but the scale is to farr off. They look like someone slapped a 2 foot thick plate on the wall. Possibly if I feel adventurous I can cut some out of .020" sheet.

Comments (especially on the paint scheme; will it work?) would be welcome.

Nat

In tems of getting a good 90 degree join or in terms of getting them to bond well?

If it is the second, several seconds pressure works wonders. If the first, what you can't see is that I cut triangular braces out of .040"x.250" strip. They actually underlay the floors, and help to keep them strong and level as well. I do find them to be a great help for intact structures. If course you can use them on ruins as well, but you have to be careful where you place them. Of course the extra contact area also helps the bond some.

@ L4:
Those are sweet. Very Ork-shantytown. Are the truncated pyramid things sprue off-cuts? I'm hoping to get a slightly lighter paint scheme, closer to the card buildings. I do think I'll steal the corrugated roofs when I do the garage for my Mek Shop...

Those truncated parts are 6mm WWII Dragon's Teeth Anti-Tank Obstacles from, IIRC CinC ?    :alien: And feel free to "steal" any of my ideas ...

Man I love Orks! Today I was working on my third building, and realized that one of the parts on my parts list was 1mm off (the grot responsible for taking notes has been flogged, then put on drops duty). Of course, the part that was wrong was already glued in. So, after initial assembly, I got this.

After the addition of 1/8" angle strip, a bit of strip to fill the hole in the corner, and some bolts from Grandt line, I got this.

Of course, the nob who lives there was told it was "ta make it tuffer, see?" He'll never know the difference. Except for doors and windows, this is what it looks like.

Did the last building for this base. Again, there was a measurement miscalculated on my parts list (THIS grot was fed to gobbler squigs), but with some floor trimming ("Dat's a saving in material, right?") it all fit together OK.

So, I need to finish the windows/doors, make a base, and paint. The base will be uneven, but a little larger than 20cm x 20cm which gives me 40mm roads and 2cm all around.

Ask me why I'm jumping between units. Who knows?

Anyway, should I stay with the current setup, or go with skinnier roads that might allow me to stay under 20cm in all directions?

NOTE: These pics are NOT with 40mm roads, they're thinner than that. The orientation is correct though.

I've gotten the "macro" paintwork done on the 4 buildings I have. Done some of the detail work, too. I've gotten some negative feedback on the placement in the above pictures, so I won't base them quite yet.

This is a Roughcoat undercaot, while not worrying about complete coverage (it's just for the texture), followed by a full airbrushed undercoat of Snakebite Leather (at 30psi).

This was followed by a very rough coat of Desert Yellow at 20psi, with the throttle (needle) all the way open, so the paint droplets start to coalesce before they hit the model. The final part of the overall paintjob was to do a drybrush of Bleached Bone, to bring out the edges and texture.

The detal work will start with painting the inside of all the windows and doors Undercoat Black (the Foundation paint), and to paint all the trim. The trim will be Blood Red, Snot Green, or Regal Blue, depending on the building. I will then weather the trim a small amount by painting a thin line of Ogryn Flesh around the perimeter of the window, and using light streaks down from it.

This is what happens when you don't know when to stop weathering, but the other windows on the side are better and more representative of what I was trying to do. They will get over their depression with counceling, I'm told.

The Metal was a basecoat of Tin Bitz, with a drybrush of Boltgun Metal, and some details picked out in chainmail. I hope to get at least some more done by Saturday.

Finished the four buildings, except for the base. I still need to buy a blade for my jigsaw, and find the time to cut a base out.

Here is a closeup of the Sunz' Hut showing a better view of the weathering.

I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, with the exceptions that I still struggle to get the weathering consistant and realistic, and the couple measuring mishaps I suffered. One should come with practice, one I've corrected in my parts lists. (I know, I know, what self-respectin' Orkitect needs sumfing as humie as a parts list?)

Well, on to more cuttin' and billdin. I's gonna have a city in no time! Well, unless da beakies comes tru an' busts it up... or dose skellies wat don't seem to werk rite... or dose panzee "u messed up my hair" pointy-ears... or dose odder humies what wit dose big wagonz dat goes 'boom'... I's gonna have a city sometime, anyhow.

Looking good, I have heard of people mixing paint with baking soda or some other fine gritty material to add some texture to the pueblo looking houses. You doing the same? It would help hide seems as well.

Thanks for the  :agree: .

@ TheDean: It's a quick and dirty Roughcoat undercoat.

Current progress includes a second round of hutz and a Mek Garage. Will post pics soon.
