Rules Used: 2008 Change Version

Black Legion: As above with the 2008 Playtest changes

World Eaters: V1.3 Supplement

This is a Vassal game and as I write this the game is paused in the 2nd turn after both players have had 1 turn (2 units each with a retain).

Now I am not that great with Vassal so I do not have the first turn map, so I will wait for TRC to come to the party with that. Then I (and possibly he) will give the low down on what has happened so far.

Enough to say that the whole first turn was a series of 1's for me, which saw TRC (as the World Eaters) pushing forward over half the table. Where we stopped it in Turn 2, The Black Legion has dealt some decisive blows to the World Eaters which saw them pushed back onto their own table edge. How will the fates turn for each General from herein? More on this battle as the pics come up.

In the meantime, here are the forces:

World Eaters - TRC
800 Banelord (never taken one!)
200 Hellfighters
300 Berserkers with 3 Bloodgors
300 Berserkers with 3 Bloodgors
300 Berserkers with 3 Bloodgors
250 5 Bikes
300 Chosen (Jump Packs/wings) + Daemon Prince
350 Chosen, (Scout), + 2 defilers
200 Chosen (jump packs/wings)

Black Legion - Frogbear
Daemon Prince + 7 Chaos Marines +1 Oblitorator + Daemonic Pact
Sorceror Lord + 7 Chaos Marines + 1 Oblitorator +  Daemonic Pact
Forlorn Hope 2 + 2 Rhinos + Daemonic Pact
Forlorn Hope 1 + 2 Rhinos + Daemonic Pact
Raptor Cult x5
Predators x4 + Stalker
Bikes
Feral
Feral
Hellblades
Hellblades
8 demons

TRC - Can you please post up the first round pic/s?  Thanks  :agree:

I would like to add the failed activations on your side do not mitigate in any way the ability for the feral to save every single hit from 6 berserkers (12 3+ for anyone not familiar with their stats)!

Here is deployment. As you can see I pushed up as much as possible using garrisons. On reflection I shouldn't have pushed so far forward and let the BL come forward to me, but you can't have everything.

Note I deliberately didn't pick a drop force and took the banelord just because I've never taken it before!

So far the Banelord after winning init fired all its missiles at the bikes and forlorn hope, with a poor round of shots not doing much to either. The bikes then ate the re-roll  activating.

End turn 1 and I'm sure Mr Frog will be along with the summary :)

Turn 2 BL get the all important initative. Smash a berzerker and chosen formation on the right with the Feral and marines. On the left the Khorne Bikes destroyed the predators and then the Berserkers jumped the feral, 12 3+ attacks got 4 hits, all saved, in return the feral killing 2 and the two supporting formations I'd hoped to BM each killing one. Bugger.

OK

Have found 5 mins relief to write this.

Turn 1

As you can see from the first pic TRC posted (taken at the end of turn 1), on the right the WoE garrisoned their Scout formations (Chosen) as far forward as possible to negate the Black Legion from setting up to close to their own objectives (sneaky British man!)

Apart from setting up a Retinue just enough away from the WoE on Overwatch, the Black legion set themselves up in their own deployment zones.

WoE won the Initiative. Banelord fires his salvo and kills 2 bikers and a rhino and stand from the Forlorn Hope. Black Legion attempts to activate the bikes and Fails (even with an SC reroll). While the WoE start to move up on the RHS of the table, the Forlorn Hope also Fail their Initiative and take cover in the rocks.

As the World Eaters move up on the right, with the Forlorn Hope coming to assist their fellow Black Legionnaires, a FF Battle ensues which sees both the Black Legion units running for cover to the trees (TRC rolled like a champion 7x5+ hits out of 12 dice I think). The WoE succeed in taking the RHS table.

Concerned over this, the Black Legion Sorcerer Lord moves his unit over to the RHS with a Feral Titan in the hope of holding the line against the onslaught.

Over on the LHS, WoE units move up through the ruined city towards the other units. Raptors, Feral and Bikes move up to secure the LHS against the approaching Berserkers, knowing the the battle hung on them holding this line. WoE Hellblades attempt to take out the bike formation only killing 1 more stand. WoE Hellblades attempt to Intercept with no effect. Predators move in to secure the LHS.

At the end of this turn, the Black Legion failed to rally any of it’s units (3 in total all hiding in the forests at the top of Pic 1&2)

It was looking like a certain WoE victory at this point.

Turn 2

Only 2 moves with retain have been actioned at this stage.

Black Legion with the initiative. On the RHS, the Feral fires into the Berserkers and Chosen reaking havok. The Sorcerer Lord commands his unit to lend support in the fire and the result is the Berserkers and Chosen running for cover back through the ruins after taking heavy losses (broken)

On the LHS, the WoE player charges his Bikers into the Predators wiping them out for no losses. Upon retaining, the Berserkers charge the Feral Titan with oaths that would make your grandmother cry late at night in her bed. Carefully placing the models only like TRC can to make sure that the FF arc of the battlehead could not be used (cheaky British man!) a combat ensues. The Feral Titan kills 4 bases in CC combat, and then goes on to make 5 (?) 5+ saves to the WoE player's distress. The combat dice are rolled and the Feral wins (by 2 I think) with Stubborn saving one of the deaths from the Berserkers. The WoE run back into the ruins with the Black Legion having the option of now either following up, or capitalising on a unit of WoE bikes out in the open.

From this point, the Black Legion (with a bit of favour from the other Chaos Gods) appear to have taken back their own table line.

We will try to play the rest of this turn and game this week. Time is not on my side at home at the moment, however, I am sure you will all admit, this is going to be a 'nail-biter' of a battle!

Cheers...

So Turn 2 continued with the Feral titan Advancing on the Chosen unit only providing them with a BM. The Raptors retained and attacked the broken Berserkers wiping them out for 1 loss themselves (WoE lost by 2 and wiped out as a broken unit).

In retaliation, the WoE Hellblades attack the BL bikers for 4 hits, all of which saved. Chosen unit on the LHS retain and charge the Raptors wiping them out leaving them selves with only 2 stands and broken as well.

BL Hellblades Intercept WoE Hellblades killing 2 (4x4+ hits out of 6 dice).

This one is looking like it may go to a turn 4 countback as there is nothing the BL can do to that Banelord!

WoE player still has Banelord and Chosen unit on the right to move.

BL player still has 1 squad of Hellblades and a Bike Retinue to move.

- WoE player goes on to move his 1 unit of Chosen to claim both Objectives to attain T&H (it was found however that tyhe BL player had one unit contesting within 15cm)
- BL player flies Hellblades in against Berserkers at the back of the ruins killing a few more stands unapposed.
- Banelord moves up and does absolutely nothing
- Finally BL Bikes engage WoE bike squad in a FF and somehow pull off a victory.

Rally Phase
- Forlorn Hope in the forests at the top rallies.
- All others fail I believe

Turn 3

It has been a few days since the battle so hard to remember turn by turn, yet here are what all the squads did.

With the activation count on his side, BL player was able to force the WoE into making the most important moves before he needed to use his choice ones. Due to this:

- With the bikes having a threat range of 105cm for the blitz objective, the Banelord once again was ineffective and remained on the Blitz preventing the BL player from obtaining Blitz, BTS and T&H.
- A unit of Berserkers moved up to place units into the opponents half and contest hold the T&H objective. These were pushed back however as the BL BTS unit, along with the fire support of a Feral broke this unit and the Chosen thereby holding and contesting those two objectives in the ruins.

Just before the charge of the BL BTS on the top right

- The newly rallied Forlorn hope go after a solitary broken WoE bike stand on their backline and kill him due to a failed Stubborn roll.  At this time the BL Bikes move into the forest to threaten any part of the table with their presence.

There was not much else that happenedother than the BL Hellblades having the full run of the board threatening and killing units out of broken formations.

Rally Phase
- BL gain their Sorcerer Retinue back.

Turn 4

This was a quick wrap up round and the BL player with the help of the WoE player made the moves to secure the game win.

As can be shown on the below map, BL player was able to push all remaining WoE forces back towards his own table edge and prevent any coming near the objectives or the table half, while at the same time securing all his own.

Game end

Black Legion 2 : TSNP & DTF

World Eaters: 0
