I don't think we're writing E-A off, but we would all like to see new models, good rules etc.  However, when you see what has been going on with the E-A experiment, you have to admit, it is always not ... good ?! ???

Hi!

I don't think the "fans" have written off the game, but GW with its miserly marketing plans have.

As with epic 40k, GW does its best for the game NOT to succeed.

As I said, E-A has been convoluted and has had too many changes from DAY 1.  The best we can hope for is the E-A rules "hard copy" some time in '04, and some new models and armies over the next few (many) years ... hopefully ...  ???

Hi!

I dont think the actual availability of the rules is that critical since they can be downloaded, but not having any miniatures to capitalize on the furor caused by the rules is bad business.

I find it less and less hopeful that I'll ever see necrons or tau in metal.....

Ruined Librariums (though those mirraculasly arrived complete, not ruined, so I'm getting them swapped!)

Ha ha, thats a good trick.

The Ork trukks do have a lot of flash on their rams.  I had 3 with zzapp gunz and 3 armoured ones.  All of them had a large chunk there.  I got all off okay though, until the very last one, which snapped the ram off too.  :L

but you have to remember that in theory, Fanatic are overstaffed, as they only generate 5% of GW's sales, and have more man power than (in theory) is needed!

Cheers

Chris

How do you figure that out? Last I heard fanatic had something like 8 staff.

GW has 1600.

5% of 1600 would be 80 staff. They are far from overstaffed :p

Latest word on the reasons for the schedule change.

I know its touigh to have to wait, but when we release a range of models it needs to be complete and ready to use for new players as well as those that already have armies. We didn't manage that the last time round (the Chaos DN and bikes being a prime example), and I want to get it right this time. Having all our 'ducks in a row' when we release a game is quite complex, not only do we need to have all of the models made, but we need to have a fully tested set of army lists and the material to go along with them, and we need to be ready to put the range and support material into production smoothly. All of this takes time and planning - it's taken over two years just to get E:A back in print with three armies in it, and based on the experience of doing the E:A book I just don't think we'd be able to manage the re-release of more than one new race per year. Looking on the bright side though, you do have the army lists up in the vault, so if you already have an army then you can use it straight away.

Best regards,

Jervis Johnson
Head Fanatic

Take it as you will.  I think it's a problem.

:(

...Well, we just have to keep our fingers crossed (though it may take a bit more than that for the game to survive...)
I think I will stay positive about EA -after all it is a good game- but if it is going the same way of e40k by 2005 I'm afraid that there's just no future for GW's 6mmm Sci FI wargaming :(  (at least untill the marketing guys at GW get their heads out of their A**es)

Cheers

No question, a BIG problem. To be frank, sounds like a lot of excuses coming from fanatic on this. Lots of promises, few translated into reality.

I worked that out when Jervis said it himself at the Fanatic Seminar at Games Day 2003. He exact words were "Fanatic are in theory over staffed, as we only generate 5% of the sales" Tuffskull and Tom (Netepic) were also in the seminar, so they heard it as well!

Cheers

No point getting into an argument over it :D
The comparison at GD was being made to the sizes of the respective "studios".

The Main studio has about 100 employees.
The Fanatic Studio has a mere 7 at the moment.

Thats still 7% staff for 5% profit & they're a man down at the moment (until they find someone mad enough to take up Steve Hambrook's post!).

However, the Fanatic team do have to work in more areas than the main studio, being responsible for the international distribution side of things for their product as well (which I imagine is a massive undertaking in itself!) and other areas.

Yeah. Fanatic HQ is unfortunately starting to sound more and more like a politician on an election tour.  :{  And like politicians, there are the string pullers behind the scenes (marketing in this case).

And Warmaster, I don't think the marketers ever get their heads out of that certain place where the sun usually doesn't shine. That's where their heads ARE located by default.  :blues:
