Hey All,
Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but with JL's CAD version unfinnished and on hold (unless Exodus Wars have picked that one up too

?) I've been thinking about how I can scratch build my own version. The bit which really concerns me is the large crystal in the abdomen.
JL's thread -
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17610&p=338914#p338914On and off for the last couple of months I've tried a few methods to get something about the right size and shape, I've tried carving polystyrene eggs, building one out of plasticard and another with greenstuff, all of which looked fairly rubbish, finnaly I stumbled across this on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:ITAlthough it doesn't specifically state the size of the egg, the overall measurements put it close to the size I was thinking of, additionaly the egg appears to just rest in the crucible below which would be ace. Cut glass however isn't a typical modelling material and so I was wondering if anybody had any experience or advice they could provide?
Obviously the egg will be heavy and require a support frame to have it lifted off the ground. I was thinking about bending a wire coat hanger and then soldering together a loose frame for the legs torso and a sort of cage for the egg. Will this be strong enough, any suggestions for how the egg could be secured in place?
Secondly almost all the weight of the model will be at the back, any idea how I could counter blanace it, I was thinking lead weights hidden in some built up terrain on the front of the base?
Thirdly are there any tools out there to saw/cut glass like this (if egg needs detatching from the stand) or to drill into the egg, for supports, mounting or to run lights into it?
Any advice would be very much appreciated, cheers
