Mmmmh, I'm definitely tempted to make a CAD version of it  :O . I'll do some testing this Week end :).

Just wondering about the size ... 60mm long ? 80 ? If you have a hint about the dimensions of a thing like that in Epic, I gladly take the info :).

This thing is awesome.

My thoughts exactly  :p

size is a bit of a tricky one, I've been mulling it over all night.

To do as I was considering and build one as a "counts as" abattoir which is DC8 then I'd say the thing should be about 80mm wide, 100mm long, 60 mm high. That might still be too large though, but something along the lines of those ratios would be good I reckon (maybe a 15-20% reduction????)

To represent it more accurately and be truer to the picture it should be bigger still but by then it becomes unmanageably large

Those dimensions are solid.  You could even give it a bit more altitude depending on how you pose it.  A CD for basing sounds good too.

Seeing as how the infantry in the pic are ~2mm tall on my screen with the stalker being ~120mm tall, a Truescale model would be silly big. :oo:

Evergreen sqare tubes in the right sizes might come in handy for the basic skeleton of the legs.  Larger size tube for the upper section and scale down from there.

This thing hit me with inspiration and creativity as well, I'd also like to make one, anyone know who drew this, as getting in contact with them would be awesome.

I likes the sound of this!!!

Will this possibly mean that I can put away the polystyrene egg, that totals the sum of my accompishments in scratchbuilding this model too date?

Did a bit of internet sleuthing and I think I've found him

Well, I have sent him an email, and have begun modelling the Tomb Stalker. I'll open up a new thread and record progress there. Hopefully this will be a slightly faster build than the seven months of the Large Walking Robot.

Hey All,

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but with JL's CAD version unfinnished and on hold (unless Exodus Wars have picked that one up too ::) ?) I've been thinking about how I can scratch build my own version. The bit which really concerns me is the large crystal in the abdomen.

JL's thread - viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17610&p=338914#p338914

On and off for the last couple of months I've tried a few methods to get something about the right size and shape, I've tried carving polystyrene eggs, building one out of plasticard and another with greenstuff, all of which looked fairly rubbish, finnaly I stumbled across this on ebay.

Image

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

Although it doesn't specifically state the size of the egg, the overall measurements put it close to the size I was thinking of, additionaly the egg appears to just rest in the crucible below which would be ace. Cut glass however isn't a typical modelling material and so I was wondering if anybody had any experience or advice they could provide?

Obviously the egg will be heavy and require a support frame to have it lifted off the ground. I was thinking about bending a wire coat hanger and then soldering together a loose frame for the legs torso and a sort of cage for the egg. Will this be strong enough, any suggestions for how the egg could be secured in place?

Secondly almost all the weight of the model will be at the back, any idea how I could counter blanace it, I was thinking lead weights hidden in some built up terrain on the front of the base?

Thirdly are there any tools out there to saw/cut glass like this (if egg needs detatching from the stand) or to drill into the egg, for supports, mounting or to run lights into it?

Any advice would be very much appreciated, cheers

You are setting yourself up for pain.

Unless you have a piece of tomb complex/ imperial ruin underneath the rear section cunningly just holding the weight, that is going yo be such a pain to put together.

If it was paste, not crystal, drilling and such are rather more feasible.

Maybe the crsytal from the 40k necron monolith sprue would be more appropriate?
