Pre-game table set-up

Game Note: In this game, I wanted to test a pure ground force (no teleports, or drops) to test out the new V1.3 units. Bloodgors and Ogryn Berzerkers were the main emphasis for this battle.

Space Marines  3250 Points (11 Activations)

* Player has obviously mis-counted 3000 points – no doubt I am going to seek a re-match to avenge this atrocity!!*

- SM Bikes + Chaplain
- Whirlwinds
- Terminators + Chaplain
- Thunderhawk(1)
- Thunderhawk(2)
- Devastators(1) + Chaplain

Turn 1
WoE win Initiative

- Hellblades go on CAP
- Thunderhawk(1) GA Berserkers(1). Hellblades enact CAP. 3 Hits, all saved. Thunderhawk continues. Devastators(2) & (3) jump out and FF assault Berserkers(1). 2 Berserkers and 1 Rhino dies to no Marine casualties. Marines win by ‘1’ and another Land Raider is destroyed.
- Bloodgors(1) March to within 5cm of Devastators(1)
- Thunderbolts Intercept Hellblades. 2 hits yet no wounds due to jinking
- Slaughterfiends Charge Devastators(1). 1 Slaughterfiend fails it’s DTT and dies. The Skull Lord and 1 Chosen stand jump off. Skull Lord attempts to mount the last Slaughterfiend yet is killed underneath the mechanical legs (failed DTT). Another ‘bitter pill’ is that the surviving Berserker from the destroyed Slaughterfiend was well out of coherency and died due to loneliness. So, at this point Devastators(1) enact Overwatch killing 1 Chosen. At this point, the Chosen are broken and run back to the ruins from whence they came.
- Whirlwinds Indirect Bloodgors(1)  killing 7 beastmen and breaking them.
- Berserkers(3) March towards Devaststors 2&3
- Landspeeders Double towards Bloodgors(1) – no effect
- WoE Bikes Double towards Devs 2&3
- Marine bikes hold
- Beastmen(2) March towards Devastators(1)
- Thunderhawk(2) GA Beastmen(2). Tactical Squad jumps out and FF attack. They do 8 casualties for zero injuries themselves and wipe the unit out.
- Berserkers(2) March to within 5cm of the Tactical squad.

Rally Phase
- Berserkers(1) fail to rally
- Bloodgors(1) fail to rally

Teleports:
- Terminators behind Berserkers(1)

Turn 2
Marines win Initiative.

- Devastators(2) Sustain WoE bikes killing 4
- Tactical retain and Sustain Berserkers(2) – No effect
- Berserkers(2) charge Tactical unit. 4 Berserkers die yet the Tactical unit is wiped out and the BTS is earned by the WoE.
- Berserkers(3) retain and Charge Devastators 2&3. Berserkers wipe our both units for zero losses.

- Thunderbolts CAP
- Whirlwinds retain and Indirect Chosen for no kills
- Chosen Charge Devastators(1) for a 2nd time. 3 Marines die to 1 Chosen and both units are broken.
- Terminators Charge Berserkers(1) in a FF combat. Berserkers win and 1 Terminator is left to run away (and take your powerfist with you!)
- Hellblades fail and Stand Down.
- Landspeeders Advance on Berserkers(2) killing 2 of them and breaking them.
- Marine Bikes Charge Berserkers(2) and wiping them out
- Thunderhawk(1) GA Berserkers(1) for no kills. Stubborn save fails however and 1 Berserker dies.
- Thunderhawk(2) GA Berserkers(3) for no impact.

- Thunderbolts remain on CAP

Rally Phase
- Berserkers(1) fail
- Bloodgors(1) fail

Teleports
- None

Turn 3

- Chosen Bloodpack Charge Marine bikes and are fully wiped out for killing1 unit.
- Thunderhawk(2) GA lone WoE bike for no hits yet breaks it.
- Berserkers(3) fail to activate.
- Devastators(1) Double on Beastmen(1) wiping them out
- Hellblades fail and Stand Down

Post Game Thoughts

This was the Marine players first win in Epic. Overall I think he did very well throughout the game.

For me, the game decider was the Slaughterfiend failing the DTT (double ‘1’) which essentially saw 3 units from the Chosen retinue dying. With such losses, they could not take on Devastators(1) who managed to hold the whole RHS of the table time and again. That action really effected the flow on attacks of the other units in future turns.

OK OK. I will endeavour to find a planet that has not been inhabited by orks recently and fight a battle there just for you. Even if they are Orks....

Thanks dude   :agree:

I mean if I flew down for a tournament would I only fight on Ork worlds? Is Oz where the Orks are starting their invasion from?

Does this mean if you have a red car down their do you go faster?  :glare:

So did the Disposable ability help you out or not so much? Hard to follow sometimes as I keep looking through the armylist to see what everything does...

Also I don't think the extra 250pts help you either. That's a whole T-Hawk, maybe even the #2 that seemed to take out your Beastmen(2) in one go. eh?

:;):  I actually own a red car and have many orks (40k and Epic) that camp out in my garage, so I guess some assumptions are almost scary true....

In this game they did to a certain extent, however in the next game (to be reported in the coming week) I took them in greater numbers and they definately improved the survivability of the foot slogging units. It means that you can garrison larger units forward and do the run rather than Drop Pod for a change in pace and style. The next few games will try to show more of these tactics, and I may take forces with combined elements of Drop Pods and foot slogging disposable upgrades to really test the combined effectiveness of the units.

Revenge is best served cold. I will have that sweet revenge in game #20 if I can. Mwahahaha

Cheers......    :sign1:

What points were you using for the marines as it seems to be only slightly over the 3000 mark not 250 over .

I might be wrong, but it makes for a good grudge match don't you think?   :;):

We use the 2008 change version for our lists, so I think I am correct

250- SM Bikes + Chaplain
300- Whirlwinds
400- Terminators + Chaplain
200- Thunderhawk(1)
200- Thunderhawk(2)
300- Devastators(1) + Chaplain
350- Devastators(2) + Dreads x2 (Missile Launchers)
250- Devastators(3)
400- Tactical + Chaplain + Dread (Powerfist)
150- Thunderbolts
250- Landspeeder (Tornados)

I get that to 3050 depending on the points for Terminators and Speeder upgrades.

Though it does set up a nice grudge match that we want to see as a report  :agree:
