Thought of another option for Pathfinders instead of Sniper:

In the Taros Campaign army list (and most probably early SG Tau army lists, I'm guessing without going back to check), Pathfinders grant an extra +1 to-hit with their Markerlights.

So Pathfinders could grant +2 to-hit, giving them again a unique niche.
Such an ability would need a price increase for both the formation and the upgrade choice.

Considering that Pathfinder units have the highest Markerlight per model (not unit!) quota...
3-7 Pathfinders, each with a Markerlight on a base compared to the two Markerlights a Skyray has, etc.

Though I cannot recollect any such discusions about it, I welcome the reduction to 2+ initiative except for the 'elite' forces. The point being that if every race ends up with 1+ initiative, the whole thing becomes rather 2-dimensional. I would add that this principle ought to be applied elsewhere to distinguish the quality of the different troops in the various races.

Ginger: Crisis Suits are the elite troops, a rapid-reaction forge trained to deal with emerging situations.

And it's not like the entire force has 1+ initiative. We're talking 1 (or two) formation at the most....

Yeah, there was no reduction to 2+ across the rest of the army. They've always been 2+.

It's only the Crisis Suits recent adjustment (and wishful thinking for the other Battle Suits) that's the issue here.

What Onyx and E&C said.

What this boils down to is my approach to any list. Initially, I want a list to be over constrained, over costed, under powered. It is much easier to loosen controls to see their overall impact then it is to fly in with the throttle wide open and wonder how tightenting things down will reduce your options. You don't have to see it that way. I want to minimize the possibility that TRC (or somebody else) is going to play a game with Ginger and uncover some magic combo that breaks the list.

Stop looking at this as if the list were set in concrete and we were freezing the design at the end of the week. Yes, their (Crisis) Init has been +1 for awhile. It was also +2 a lot longer before that. All those lists are different than the animal we are dealing with now. What they were before helps guide us, but doesn't commit us to a particular path.

Let's continue with our testing effort and see what develops.
