I think that the issue here is not the fact that 'everone likes the Squats' but that loads of
gamers like the Squats. New races produced for the 40K universe would have to appeal to people who are not already gamers and therefore bring new people in, rather than further split the current player/collector base. For example, the Tau were widely ignored initially by the gaming community as they 'didnt fit with the 40K theme' but what they did do was appeal to a whole new section of people who were not - at that time - playing 40K.
