I wish Squats were officially coming back from the dead. Although I did notice on Dakka that there is a rumor about codexes (codices?) for Demiurge and Dark Eldar and, given the success of Space Hulk, possible re-releases of other dormant games.

Somebody mentioned getting a look-see at some Demiurg stuff, but made no mention of what they looked like.  Is there any relation between this image above and the recent released information of Demiurg hitting the scene?

It certainly means that we need to hold off on a lot of the Epic: Xenos efforts.  Not all, just some.

I think that was a joke.

IMO this is a humourous model and a jokey nod for old timers that I wouldn't read too much into - it's the White Dwarf in a modern day style space ship with a goblin dressed as an alien grey and a cartoon shaped space rocket earring. It totally doesn't have a W40k vibe and I think it's a one off fun thing (something GW hasn't done in a very long time) and not the start of anything to come for the Demiurg.

There are loads of other armies GW would do rather than Demiurg (Dark Eldar are on hold till who knows when as they're not sure they'll sell) and they recycle old armies so quickly they'll just re-do these instead. I reckon you're safe and can do whatever you like with them.

It was apparently made very clear at games day that this is not a squat, nor a demiurg, and should not be taken as any indication of any intent to work on those races.

It's the White Dwarf in Space, a one off fun model for WD subscribers.

I got so excited when I saw this...
I will kill for this mini :p Squats have always been a favourite of mine.

The thing that strikes me as strange is that so many people love the Squats... Well, thats not what I find strange. What I find strange is that despite calls for a rebirth of the Squats, GW refuses to even contemplate it and releases things that don't have anywhere near as much public interest.
Dark Eldar... I ask you?
Long live the Squats!

I dare say it would be from experience that everyone says that want it, and when it is finally placed in front of them, only a few buy it.

GW will keep doing things that earn them money. In this day and age, you cannot blame them for not sinking company funds into items that do not produce a profit.

I think that the issue here is not the fact that 'everone likes the Squats' but that loads of gamers like the Squats. New races produced for the 40K universe would have to appeal to people who are not already gamers and therefore bring new people in, rather than further split the current player/collector base. For example, the Tau were widely ignored initially by the gaming community as they 'didnt fit with the 40K theme' but what they did do was appeal to a whole new section of people who were not - at that time - playing 40K.

And I think it worthwhile to drag out the quote from Jervis on the subject:
Quote:

First of all, Squats were *not* dropped because they were not selling well. There were then, and are now, plenty of other figure ranges that sell in the sort of % quantaties that the Squats pulled down, especially when you look across all of the ranges produced by GW rather than just those for 40K.

No, the reason that the Squats were dropped was because the creatives in the Studio (people like me, Rick, Andy C, Gav etc) felt that we had failed to do the Dwarf 'archetype' justice in its 40K incarnation....
