What do you think?
Honestly, I feel that a chaos rebellion (with a little 'c') on the defensive in a war that is mostly Guard-vs-Guard has been done sufficiently, both in Vraks, and again in Siege. I feel that your current idea is more a twist on an existing theme, rather than something new and exciting.
I feel that Chaos on the attack would provide a more interesting supplement, especially as the Red Corsairs are known to be one of the most aggressive (attacking) CSM armies, with a Blood Pact-esque army by their side(traitor IG able to summon Daemons, with stalk tanks and some Daemon Engines) you would have two entirely new armies.
Imperial forces fighting against them could be a PDF army list (a list using Malcadors, Valdors, etc.), and later during the war a Space Marine chapter, Inquisition forces, etc, intervene to push back the Chaos invasion.
Chaos would be attacking this Heaven planet to gain its valuable resources.
Army lists would thus be:
- Red Corsairs *
- Blood Pact-esque Traitor Guard (with Stalk Tanks!) ***
- Heaven PDF (Malcador-using Guard) ***
- Ordos Hereticus Inquisition *
- Ordos Malleus Inquisition *
- A Space Marine Chapter *
- Possibly a variant IG list like Elysians *
* Already largely written, would simply need playtesting.
*** Would need writing and testing from scratch, and I'd be happy to help develop the lists.
I feel that something like that would be a lot more fun and interesting than another "chaos rebellion" story. Heck I feel it was a bit of a mistake for
Siege to face the DKoK against a variant Siegemasters list, as it could have been a lot more creative.
So yeah, your current idea is largely along the lines of:
"Guard with new tanks vs. Traitor Guard with (the same?) new tanks, with Red Corsair allies"
Whereas I would like to see:
"Red Corsairs with Blood Pact-esque followers vs. a PDF force with new tanks, and the Inquisition intervening to crush the traitors and the daemons"
