Jimbo,
How do you recommend "Epic-izing" the old Ork dreadnought?
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi all, Tuffskull and Nealhunt are right about the coal, it is a plant deposit compacted by the pressure of deposits to form a mineral-like solid. re fuel efficiency: oil-based fuels generally combust more efficiently and have a higher calorific value, which means you get more stomp per tonne - enginseer's word! I think of huge oil tanks somewhere in the depths of Gargants, fuelling great boilers driving steam engines (not rubines - way too smooth). And why not supplement them with coal burning systems as well - with gretchin stokers slaving away to fuel the burners? I could imagine an oil system moving the entire machine, with added (probably as an afterthough during construction of the gargant) coal-fired systems for moving weapon mounts, generating extra elektrik and so on. lots of belching smoke too, and the occasional (regular!) burst pipes etc. A mekboy Gargant would of course have a smaller, more efficient, oil-burning kombusta engine..
Did I say I used to work in a shipyard? cheers.

To make it more 'epicy' I'd chop those horrible legs off, and add a plastic battlewagon body from E40k on each side for the "feet", stick a suitable gargant head and a couple of weapons, give it a paint job, and there ya go!

A couple months ago, I got a Railwars starter box for the Wasatch faction from the local bargain bin. That's the clockwork/steampunk guys. It had 5 of the automatons (steam gargants) and 5 clockwork tarantulas (Defiler conversions) in it. It also has 5 jumppack troops and I think the tanks on the packs will work nicely for scenery. If it was cheap here, it might be in other bargain bins elsewhere.
If I hadn't seen the pics on links posted here, I never would have known what they were from the picture on the box. So, thanks to those who posted the links.

Quote (MaksimSmelchak @ 03 2003 Nov.,14:19) | How do you recommend "Epic-izing" the old Ork dreadnought? | I would probably add a Squiggoth turret instead of the Grot pilot.
I would add shoulder weapons (either small Battlefortress turrets or Bowelburna turrets).
I would add some ladders and rigging at the back (complete with Orks and Gretchin).
In order to make it a steam powered Gargant, I would add the 40K scale Ork Dreadnought Engine. not sure if link will work

but the part number is 9947010307717
but that's a start

Jimbo,
Thanks for the advice.
I like the photo of you and your family very much. You have a lovely family. I'm very happy for you.
Everyone else,
Is anyone else out there making Steam Gargants and if so, how are you doing it?
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Found this picture on my website

If you could find one it would make a really interesting steam Gargant. Alas it is an old Citadel Limited Edition which would be hard to find.
