Gday all, yep CAL001 decided a while ago to build the biggest craziest board ever, the cover it with a bucket load of scenery and then to blow away each other on it. This was where I came in, a bit of wood working knowledge and a bucket load of tools from my patternmaking days and we built 2 (yep, thats right) 2.5 meter by 2 meter boards that connect together to make the 5 x 2 meter board!

CAL then covered the boards with styrafoam sheets, covering some with flock and the others were to be used to make the city.

The next step was to put the call out to all the local dudes to get them to come along and see just how big that we could make it, GROOVER, horse and Asmodean all put their hands up and we settled on a 70K game, 10k for each of the 3 Loyalists (GROOVER, horse and Asmodean) and 20K each for the invaders (myself and CAL).

We set up at CAL's work, the Paramatta Lancers barracks, on the friday night and then began to play on the saturday. 2 Hours to meet, greet and deploy and we were away just after 11 (heres a pre-deployment pic of the board)



The Armies were laid out, the Loyalists had 7K of IG, 3K of Ultramarines, 10K of AMTL and 10K of Eldar support, while the Evil but good looking dudes had 20K of Iron Warriors, 15K of black legion, 2.5K of Vraskian tratiors and 2.5K of Death guard. We were also only allowed 1 spacecraft each while the loyalists weren't allowed any.

The Loyalists had their 5 objectives (one was a wraithgate) and we had to try to break the line, for every 5K of ours that got inside the city we would also gain 1 VP. There were also the other usual VP's for break their spirit etc.

Ok, so a few more pics of the Loyalists lines before we get too much further into telling the story






We were actually very lucky with the set-up, the army had left out a 3 meter ladder, this was placed in the perfect spot for photo's and for GROOVER to trip over   (not that we laughed at him  

The main problem from the start for the Loyalists was always going to be the wait, we had deployed 50cm in from the board edge and yet still had another 10cm to cover to just reach the outer defenses, so a large amount of their army stood around twiddling their thumbs on overwatch.

The artillery at a 5:2 odds in the baddies favor allowed the chaos to hit the loyalist artillery and then the front lines, to prepare the softening for the assault, And the rest of the army surged forward. The picture below showed the first turns movement of the chaos.





Turn 1 took about 3 hours ( I think. From 11 till about 2 sometime) and really we began to understand that maybe we were just too far away from the front lines. Talk began around the idea of the next one being deployment along the long side of the board...

I am sure my obsession with painting obseen amounts of wargames miniatures could be put to much better use with you guys around.

I think I have been painting more armies than getting games in lately up here.  Seriously, I only get games of anything in every 3 or 4 weeks in which time I have usually finished painting an army .

I notice unpainted Eldar Titans in there   , surely I painted enough for CAL to be able to field most insane army sizes   (on a side note to match the colour scheme on those titans isn't too difficult through it does require the black GW ink that they don't sell anymore so I would snap some up fast).

Epic- A version of the game with even smaller models that is often dominated by titans which are vehicles the size of a large building and have the ability to pwn...everything. There is also infantry, whose only function in Epic is to provide valuable traction to Titans walking across snowy paths.
