Aesthetically, I also prefer the "guitar pick" SG Wave Serpents; I really like all the "shielding plates" on their prow.

Oh wow.... A second person that likes the SG Wave Serpents. I really like their design, and dont like the 'Falcon but bigger' versions.

I like them too, so that makes 3!

I like it that there looks like there some *technology* up there in the front end of 'em!  *laugh*

Wish they could still do the "wave" that they're named for...

I love the plated design, but for me the FW models win out simply due to their finer detail... otherwise the older design is far superior - those plates make the tank a lot more imposing, like it could actually take some fire whilst offloading a load of troops into a firefight situation.

Ah, how I miss the Warp Wave.  Still, that's very much confined to days gone by now, but I wish they had at least kept the name, as 'Energy Shield' is rather bland and unimaginative by comparison.

Am I committing heresy if I say that I don't like any of the Specialist Games or Foregeworld Eldar tanks, and that the original Space Marine models were much better?

It's not heretical. Just odd.

I think I liked the old wave serpents, I just hated them in-game (in combiation with nightspinners). But I hope you do not prefer the plastic Falcons as well

I'm afraid I do.

I'm an old school Eldar player, and I really think that the original Eldar tanks are superior to the current ones in terms of aesthetics and overall quality, and this does include the plastic Falcons I'm afraid  :;):

So the plastic falcons, the Temptests (of which I bizarrely have a bucket of and I never liked Eldar) and the whats? Were there any other 1st ed eldar gear (beyond knights and titans of course). Or are you talking about 2nd edition (heresy in the eyes of the epic model gods).

I'm talking about the Renegades era, which I believe is counted as Second Edition, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

In other words, I'm referring to the glorious metal Tempests, Wave Serpents, Warp Hunters, Doom Weavers, Deathstalker Prism Cannons, and Firestorms.  All of which are generally superior to their current equivalents in my view.

I just find the Specialist games models too rough around the edges for an Eldar design in comparison, especially the Wave Serpents and Falcons.

The 2nd edition Tempests, Doom Weavers, Deathstalker Prism Cannons, and Firestorms were all pretty cool and stand up well to their modern equivalents. But the bew Falcons are so much more prettier in my personal opinion.

Cheers

James

The old wave serpents strike me as looking like a mix between jabba the hut's barge thing and a cheap shoe.

My guess is that they have to look better in person and amongst other units.

There have been quite a few floating up onto ebay lately, and I'm flirting with trying to score some to satisfy my lack of tanks.

Well, I think the original metal Wave Serpents are the most beautiful Eldar vehicles in existence.

Unlike the current models, they have curves, resemble the 'wave shape' which gave them their original name, and just look so much more threatening in my opinion.
