So has anyone actually received The Official Word about what's going on with the Forge World range?

They're not "out of scale with the existing titans", the existing titans are out of scale with the rest of epic.

There is no "official word", GW doesn't pre-announce its support or cancellation of things... they just "happen".

Once every thing is settled/decided, *THEN* they'll tell us.

Heck, the sales staff on the phone probably don't even know.

Ah ... yes ... I forgot ... I get confused with F/Ws scales ... :_(

Actually the Epic Miniatures are out of scale with the Titans. :p

So where are the FW Epic Warhounds then? Getting restocked?

I am a little dubious about this. If the FW Titan game is even close to ready (which we are fairly sure it isnt... but bear with me here) then I suspect that this may be to stop 'the Inquisitor effect'. When/If FW release this game and true-scale Titans, they cant stock them next to the smaller, cheaper minis - it would not only confuse people but also we would just buy the cheaper ones and leave the biggers ones alone.

There is no "official word", GW doesn't pre-announce its support or cancellation of things... they just "happen".

Once every thing is settled/decided, *THEN* they'll tell us.

And this, to me, is the most important thing. We may well see the entire range returned with no casualties at all. But, this recent move has shown us that the axe hangs over the entire line, and that it may well be drawn out from under us with zero warning at any time. That is not a situation that I am in any way comfortable with.

Relation to history is what distinguishes 40k from other sci-fi games.

40K isn't a sci-fi game. It's a fantasy game set in the far future.

Actually it's a Fantasy/Historical game set in the far future. History is clearly an enormous influence on it in a way it isn't in most other sci-fi games. Like Warhammer itself, it's history with tolkien bits tacked on along with popular culture and a certain poem from the 17th century.

Never-the-less Weapons and gear are modern/sci-fi, imbued with certain medieval superstitious elements.

Curious; what's the 'certain 17th century poem'?

For sure It's Paradise Lost.

In Paradise Lost, Satan and his rebel angels makes war against Gabriel and the angels loyal to God. After some vast battles that include angels throwing hills at each other! the Son (of god) gets on his chariot and kicks the rebels out of heaven.

They fall, fall through chaos and through the gates of hell ending up on a burning lake that casts no light.

Satan wakes up and endeavours to get out. There has been talk of a world - Earth, and Satan decides he's going to mess things up there. He gets through the gates, convincing the sentries Sin and Death to let him passed and flys through the realm of chaos meeting various denizens of chaos on his way.
He enters the new world (space) and flying past various planets on his way to earth. Various angels are sent to guard earth, Adam and Eve and foil Satan's plans.

Yeah, Priestly, Ansell and Blanche read Paradise Lost alright...

Chaos most clearly comes from Michael Moorcock's novels though, where an army of warriors bearing eight-pointed stars on their shields attack a world. Everywhere these Chaos Warriors go, things start to warp and mutate...

It's stolen from both sources. The horus heresy background definitely lends fairly liberally from paradise lost though.
