I hope inspiration for the new Titan game doesn't come from Battletech!  :oo:

Why not?

I think Battletech is a cool game with a great backstory. I prefer EA, for both gaming reasons and background reasons, but would nt knock Battletech.

Cheers

James

Battletech can fit in 40k (Lucius pattern).
But, Apart from the imperial guard, 40k imperium style is mainly medieval inspired.
The majority of Titan Legions should be Gothtec rather than battletech. with some really ancient machines even being Romanesque!

And Chaos - bonus points for anyone who can tell me what the primary inspiration for this is (and to a large extent Loyalist Space Marines also)?

I was always under the impression that Adeptus Titanicus' inspiration was Battletech?

I hate the way that you have to peel off a Mechs armour like the layers of an onion until you actually DO damage.

One feature i liked about 2nd Edtion WH40k (with which i'm started with 40k) was that you could danage or even destroy a tank with one single good shot.

True. But the imperium of the warhammer 40k universe is medieval like mad. Therefore styling is gothic. Big gothic mechs instead of big futuristic mechs. Relation to history is what distinguishes 40k from other sci-fi games.

I honestly can't see any rationale behind this move by Tony C. It boggles my mind.

It's simply the rationale GW always uses: It doesn't sell *enough*.

It makes perfect sense from that standpoint.

I'd be really interested to know the amounts that AI sells. Also it should also remove the average sum across several years of planes sold before AI (as some would go to epic players). How much difference there is to epic sales would be interesting to find out.

It may not be that much different. However most AI stuff is much newer. When it comes time for retooling AI stuff.......

40K isn't a sci-fi game. It's a fantasy game set in the far future.

GW doesn't exist to make games. It doesn't exist to make miniatures. Those are just means to an end. GW, along with every other business ever, exists to make its shareholders richer.

I understand and agree with this comment AxelFendersson.

But...

As a business, which exists to make a profit, surely it is neccessary for that business to support it's products to help boost sales.

When was the last time we saw an Epic battle report/article in White Dwarf?

It could easily be argued that GW's Epic sales are a direct responce to the amount of effort they put into selling the product.

And that is completely true.

The money/time they would need to be spent to support EPIC isn't worth the results/revenue it would generate, since we, as "specialist gamers", are no longer their target demographic.

They want somthing that looks "kewl!" that younger, teen-aged boys will buy with abandon... EPIC isn't "that", 40k is.

They have no real desire to "support their products", they desire to churn the same products over and over again with minor "improvements" to the constant influx of "new kids" into "the Hobby"... and their continued participation in "the Hobby" is just an incidental benefit... cuz there will always be more "new kids"...

That's their business model. (No pun intended.)

You are so right, Chroma.

I know I am, because I used to work for them in a retail development capacity.

Oh the things I heard!

I was referring to Tony's Big Titan game ...  It's clear that F/W Epic is not a money maker ...  I don't think the Big Titan game will be a success either ...  Compounded by the fact they are out of scale with the existing Titans ... But what do I know !  8v)

I'm not a real fan of the G/W 40K fluff, hence Epic fluff ... so when we play, it's Sci-fi not fantasy ... :vD  :))  8v)
