Hey folks

After I finished my half-way completed Dark Angels, I was hoping to do a Chaos and an Eldar army.

Can anyone give me their opinions on the Specialist Games vehicles now that the Forge World ones are no longer available?  I always liked the look of the FW falcons compared to the SG ones, but can anyone post comparison shots or just let me know the differences?

I ask because having seen the FW Leman Russ compared to the SG version, there really is no comparison.  I just couldn't get up the will to paint those strangely compressed and blurred details, and I'm wondering if the Eldar range is the same.

Thanks folks

-Moronguhl

The SG falcons are perfectly fine, they are roughly the same size. The FW model has/had more detail and was nicer but the SG one is still a good mini.

The FW one being slightly nicer is balanced out by the fact that they are espially prone to miscasts+damage. I intended to use the FW ones but gave up after 3 unusable packs.

The SG models are fine for the Eldar IMO.

It's only really the Guard that had such a massive quality difference.

I actually prefer the SG Firestorm to the FW Firestorm, both aesthetically and for model survivability.

Aesthetically, I also prefer the "guitar pick" SG Wave Serpents; I really like all the "shielding plates" on their prow.

Other than that the SG range is complete; FW never re-did resin super-heavies.

I've a feeling the sculptor for the SG Super-heavies was Will Hayes, who now works for Forgeworld of course...

Agh.  Having looked at the SG Wave Serpents, they're kind of nasty.  Any advice on converting the falcons or something?

EDIT: Alternatively, would the FW wave serpents look hideous next to them?  Still seem to be on the FW store so I might be able to get them if I'm quick?

This is just my opinion and just based on pictures, but the FW night spinners seem way way way way better looking to me than the SG models.

I'm still debating a FW order for some wave serpents and night spinners...

Hmmm.  I don't mind the SG Nightspinners, I think they're quite cool personally, but I can't stand those Wave Serpents.

Any Eldar vets got experience of mixing and matching the SG Falcons with the FW Wave Serpents?

Cheers Hena, I'm not sure I would have done it in the past with IG models but I guess we have no choice now!  It seems to me that there is less disparity between SG and FW Eldar models than with IG so I reckon it'd look ok.

Think I might go for it and get 4 packs of Wave Serpents.  I'll only regret it if I don't, and I can always trade them.

Luckily the FW Hydra will be staying in stock as it's part of the Aeronautica range.

Quote: (Rug @ 18 Jun. 2009, 17:07 )

My eldar army uses SG Falcons with FW Serpents.

I have one formation of FW Falcons but I feel they are too big next to the FW Serpents and very fragile.
The FW Firestorms are VERY fragile, the SG ones are nicer.

There are actually loads of subtly different falcon hulls and turrets- IMO the best were the E40k ones with the missile launcher instead of the scatter laser (which is totally out of proportion!)

Hey Rug!

Didn't manage to make last Tuesday at the Cock (as you may have noticed if you attended!) but I hope to be back on the 30th when I'm back from gallivanting off to Barcelona.

Not gonna be able to make the tournie either unfortunately, but with any luck we can get some regular games in at the Cock and possibly at GW Kingston.  I've been put onto a couple of guys who play there every other week so we may well be able to get in on so it's all good news.

Cheers for the Epic info, got four packs (12 serpents) on their way.

I don't have much to add to this discussion, but I would suggest checking eBay or ChaosOrc if you are looking into buying the SG falcons.

The current SG falcon model hull is identical to one of the four falcon hulls available back in the E:40k era, but the new ones are generally more prone to casting defects. If you can score some E:40k era models, you'll get more variety and probably better detail.
