Hi!

Amphibious rules seem and oft neglected aspect within the epic scene. Some attmepts were made in the past for some versions of epic, but were generally not al that popular.

Any new effort for such rules would be well received, especially with model pictures to show what can be done.

Hi!

Besides monitors, what other "naval" units would be good to have in an epic game?

Maybe a water-based Capitol Imperialis?

my 2 cents

It really depends how in depth you want to go...

The true "primarchload" would have:
Battleships/Heavy Cruisers bombaring shore targets,
Destroyers shepherding them,
Maybe a small flat deck launching Valkyries to shuttle Stormtroopers in
Fast attack crft,
Landing vessels of avrious sizes.

It just depends on how far you want to go...

But I thought the flyers (guard anyways) operated out of spacecraft in orbit? :l

True...either than or well out to sea.
In the falklands the CVs were about 200nm from the landing zone!

Now a carrier to launch Valkyrie and transports off of would make sense.  You could support them with air power from orbit, and could insert troops to the LZ rapidly and with more accuracy than drop pods.

I have a pretty good links list to 6mm naval manufacturers at:

"6mm_Miniatures" E-group:

"6mm_Miniatures/links/6mm_Naval__All_eras"

And:

"AIW-Wargaming ? AIW (Arab-Israeli Wars) Wargaming" E-group:

"AIW-Wargaming/links/6mm_AIW_Navy_Mini"

Check it out and enjoy!

As Tas points out ... if an ocean is available, someone will use  to employ forces.  G/W has ignored this aspect of warfare. But no matter, there is a lot of other stuff out there to fill the void ...   :D
