In the Tournament lists in Ginger's link (thanks Ginger) I'm seeing no titans larger than Ferals.

Feral Titans are... somewhat powerful.

Tournaments being what they are, the players naturally gravitate to the best army list synergies.

What if I just want fun games with beer drinking and laughter rather than high-pressure tourney games with tears and antacids?
I enjoy using the Red Corsairs army list in non-tournament games, as I think it's somewhat more level overall than the Black Legion army list.

Alternatively I believe the ERC has put out some recommended changes to the army list that fix some of the problems with it (like the bigger Titans not being attractive).

Ok, I see where you are going and agree with the sentiment expressed by E&C. Many of the answers above were assuming both that you were playing the "tournament" scenario and that you were looking for a more 'competitive' style of game. If you are looking for a more gentle, or "Fluffy" style of game, try playing some of the scenarios from the back of the book or indeed Chroma's [Total War] scenarios.

To the point about activations, as you may be aware, too few activations means that the opponent gets to move a number of formations without hinderance - but then perhaps you are already planning that into your strategy, maybe using Daemons to improve your resiliance while preparing to pounce on the weaker enemy formations to reduce that advantage.

On the various War Engines, The Feral is often chosen because it is considered better/more competitive than the Warhound (even though it is a bit more expensive). Many are also using Death Wheel(s) as a really tough BTS that is considerably cheaper than the BaneLord. Both choices are influenced by the points differences and the additional formations than can be bought. However, in the end you pays your money - - - (its up to you)

I don't think he's looking for a 'fluffy' style of gameplay per-se, he's just looking to use a big 'ole Warlord class Titan in his games, which is difficult to do at all if you're using the stock Black Legion army list, unless you completely abandon points costs or something.

That's why I suggested the ERC mods as IIRC they've attempted to make the Banelord Titan a more appealing choice.

EDIT:

I looked up the ERC changes an I was wrong... they made the Ravager Titan cheaper, not the Banelord. My bad.

Still, I think Ogre44's had some good advice here (like taking Obliterators because they're teh awesome), and I think an army led by a Banelord would look awesome.

I think I've had some good advice as well, thanks heaps chaps.

I guess I'm going to have to get some games in, get my face kicked in and see what does and doesn't work for me.

I'm hoping a Banelord works

Kev101 used a banelord in the last tourney i went to; they really are very good blitz guards y'know! All that Indirect fire etc helps knock out enemy artillery and such like and i'm pretty sure there are VERY few units that would attempt to take it on directly to steal the blitz.
If possible with Titans that large you can always start moving forward later on in the game to capture other objectives if the coast is clear.
