The "chain" effect is definitely intended as rear Synapse swarms can "feed" units forward for later use.
The "suicide" Synapse, while apparently legal, isn't really intended: there used to be a rule that whenever a Synapse Swarm was out of coherency, the part with the least amount of Synapse creatures was destroyed.
Tactically, you're giving your opponent free points towards their BTS goal... I'm not sure there would be a lot of situations where it would be wise to do this.
How is this affecting your army composition, btw?
