The handbook eldar list is quite significantly changed from the original.

The handbook has caused more trouble than it was worth in my opinion, as it cemented some rather dodgy changes into a form of officiality.

Guard are the best way to combat Eldar, Shadowswords, Deathstrikes & Vultures are constant worries for Eldar Titans.

So True

This happened last night in our games. That Eldar titan went running back to the farseer without a holofield, and many dissaponted guardsmen who had just reloaded their cell packs for a spate of target practice. Howe very unsportsmanlike of the eldar to run just before the real fun began...

I will not play eldar for a while as I believe they take a certain finesse to play effectively. I do not have this currently. It is a very good strategist and someone that understands risk and numbers very well that can make eldar work efficiently IMO. I would love to read a tactical write up on this force.

you don't need finesse, just 2 simple criteria: 1) only assault if you can smash the opponents into lots of little pieces with few losses 2) hit and run away every other time :)

Eldar are very fragile and that, along with the 2+ initiative, means you're likely to have several broken fms out of play by the end of the game, which loses you the activation advantage and tactical flexibility strengths of Eldar. Moving castles also help that, particularly against an assault heavy army like marines (that and running away, did I mention that?).

I'm still learning though, so none of that's gospel  :p

I wrote an Eldar Guide for Warhammer 40,000,

Yes please.

Is this online to read?

Yes, I think you're on the money, Matt. Certainly, your Eldar are SMASHING my poor li'l Ultrasmurfs with that very practice of "moving castles" (several firebases surrounded by more expendable units)...I'm happy to go out on a limb and call it effective.  :))

well, if you'd only stop taking all sorts of nasties like terminators, thunderhawks and landers, I wouldn't have to, would I?!

I'm sure I'm still in for a world of pain when we resume - still on for tonight?

Should be, yeah. She Who Must Be Obeyed worked a night-shift last night, so she'll be passing out around 9pm. And then it shall be game-time, my friend. MWAAA-HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!  :))

Do you have Swordwind (or the downloaded PDF, by the way?)

cool, my SWMBO is out, so we're all good!

PDF on its way. Can't see any other differences other than the jetbike save (4+), better fireprism stats (longer range AND AA), the pulse and spirit stones rule. Don't know so much about the various formation changes.

I'm sure however you'd be pretty pissed with me if I brought a couple of 5 strong fireprism formations - 75cm AA 5+ lance would essentially be an area denial situation for any air attacks! We could play those rules if you want :)

OUCH! OH MY GAWD!!

If you have time, might be worth checking the 2008 errata and FAQ docs as well. There is sure to be other gold in there, if we're going to adopt the original rulebooks for our future games.

Yeah I really hope someone will sort out an EpicA Handbook 2009 with the more current lists and only the approved changes.

The 2008 handbook was a good idea that was obviously rushed or badly executed with all the experimental stuff, but it's still proving popular and misleading for the obvious reasons of how useful and user-friendly a single easily printable document is.

So now I am confused

Are people stating that the lists in the Handbook 2008 Change version are either too powerful or incorrect? This is the one that we are using and the one I finally got all my players to read and play with... personally I feel the rules make more sense...hence I am now confused...
