That's an interesting idea, but possibly too complicated to keep track of?

If the Preacher is attached to the Regimental HQ it could gain Fearless in addition to any other abilities representing that the highest ranking Priest is with the Commander and his lesser Priest distributet throughout the other forces.

To do this you could keep the priests as commissars without fearless and make the SC stand fearless.
Or have 1 Greater/High priest (fearless)and the rest lesser/normal priests(non fearless).

There are a lot of good ideas regarding preachers, but ultimately it comes down to testing time. I'll focus on this as long as I can. Ultimately its down to E&C (sorry!)

If the army can't be adequately tested I really don't think it's a good idea just to rush out the book and "hope"...

Other than Rug and myself, has anyone else actually fielded Mossinians?

Only in test games against myself.

The point is "Fearless" preachers have been extensively tested (they've been "Fearless" since the begining).

The list doesn't rely on fearless but it is such a powerful ability that removing it would require extensive experimentation and then testing to redress the balance. The effects of fearless are well understood in all the other "human" lists (Guard and LatD), not having fearless would be new ground.

"Extensive experimentation" sounds a little extreme... what have fearless preachers been doing so well for the army, just keeping a few shattered/broken formations around?

Steel Legion could play fairly strongly without Commissars... with the "random" nature of them in the original rules, armies with only 2 or 3 or 4 were quite possible and still effective.  The Commissars, and Preachers that follow them are *icing* on the cake of the army, not a main ingredient.

It's the massed small formations that need to be tested more extensively, in my opinion.  Allowing "three support per core" makes this army potentially even more popcorn than Siegers.

The "print deadline" isn't set in stone, is it, I thought it was just a "desired" date, set before the lack of actualy testing on the Mossinians had shown itself.

As far as I'm concerned removing Fearless from the Preachers does invalidate the testing that has been done to date and the list will need a futher period of testing.

Indeed, I'd still like to make the London Tournament, which means having the list wrapped up within a couple of weeks at the latest.

Not to be mean but even the Dark Eldar had more playtests done with five dedicated players and a couple other stragglers.  Necrons and Minervans had more people testing them.  Two playtesters for the Mossinians?  Egads!

E&C, there is no way we'll make the cut-off time for Ginger's tourney at this point - might as well take your time and get some good feedback.  There is no sense in repeating the mistakes of the past.  It will give me a chance to save up some extra capital for the print run anyway... :sulk:

Can you explain how this change invalidates the testing?

Surely *scads* of Preachers were dying when their tanks were blown up or their horses shot before they could do anything... it's as if they weren't even there then.

How are *six* characters having that great of an effect on the army?  This is what I'm not understanding.

It surely tarnishes the previous testing, if not completely invalidating it.

I can see both sides of the discussion and am yet to make up my mind.

Personally I'd put a note in the book that the mossinian list is not intended for tournament play and leave it at that.

Then why even include a Tournament Army List?  *sheesh*  That's the whole point of having a list.
