Just the same as the Power Fist is the best weapon option for the Commissariat...

But what's the answer to what I asked above: "[A]re these actually renegade Imperial Preachers running around with the Mossinians, whipping Eviserators around?"

For what its worth I like the Mossino story. (apart from the Whitescars getting short shrift! that bit is amusing though)

I don't see why not ; The monks from the ecclesiastical commune mentioned in the story may very well have turned 'traitor'.

Ah, ok here is the discussion.
Originally posted by me in the Mossinians vs Nomad Marines battle report thread:

Interesting comments. When I read the list I also thought "Why do the Mossinians have so much choices the Siegemasters have?" Of course they are also preferring siege warfare. Then again why make another siege warfare mass army if a Chaos/traitor player could just use an army whose troops count as troops from the Siegemasters list (i.e. army list used is the siegemasters list, but miniatures are converted/painted as belonging to Chaos/traitors)?
The White Scars are okay and an important Space Marine Chapter. Death Corps is a must (great design, background, rules). Yet if you want Traitor Guard they should probably have a new theme.

I think the comments about the story are unfair, but there is no pleasing everyone when it comes to fiction - especially science fiction.  We're a weird lot and for every person who loves it there is usually another who hates it.

I find the Siege story plausible and realistic, at least within the context of the 40K universe.  Heck, the true story behind WWI would be less plausible.  "So, let's get this straight?  The whole world went to war because some worthless royal couple got shot?  That's totally lame." :oo: It sounds to me like he had a bad experience with the army list and lashed out at the bulk of the work.

Speaking of which, it sounds like the army list itself needs a whole bunch of playtests before the book goes to print.  I will promise to play it once the tournament is over.

Ah; but what i like so much is that the troops HAVEN'T turned to Chaos; no  converting needed and, for once, sheds light on how brutal the 41st millenium can be!

I've not had a chance to test any lists yet but just wanted to mention that i really do like the direction this is going; sure, mossinians may need a bit of changing but overall i reckon once the books done it'll be fine :-) I never got a copy of swordwind anyway so i don't mind having the siegers in here too; hardcopy.

Considering we actually had a really fun game, I don't think he was "lashing out"... *laugh*

See, he plays "non-Chaos renegade Space Marines" (They're religious fanatics as well, semi-Muslim, believing the Emperor is the "Last Prophet"), so he was intrigued by non-Chaos IG renegade... the "whiff of Chaos" in there completely ruined if for him... cuz it's *ALWAYS* Chaos, not "human choices" that are the issue in 40k... it just really irked him.  *laugh*

His irritation with the "Preachers" was just that, despited being heretics/renegades, they'd be fearless when Space Marine Chaplains aren't.

And he really liked the Death Korps.   :agree:

I've been discussing this with Ben on MSN, and have expressed the belief that the Mossinians really need to be changed up... if they're "available for play" there is almost no reason at all to *ever* play Siegemasters as the Mossinians trump them in most aspects as they are now written:

More support slots, better armour on tanks, bigger aircraft wings, and Sniper *Platoons* are all awesome... and then they've also got all the other stuff Siegers get.

Hmm, fooled me with the review your buddy gave.  Oh well.  Glad he sorta liked it then.

It seems that if the Mossinians play better than Siegemasters and have more options than Siegemasters, it stands to reason that limiting some of those options would accomplish quite a bit toward the goal of bringing them into balance and distinguishing them from the Siegemasters.  Time to prune the tree of unnecessary branches.

They were willing to defy imperial decree in order to get their point heard, knowing this was almost certainly suicide. Sounds pretty fearless to me.

Sounds *suicidual* to me... *LAUGH*  And when the righteous might of the Imperium shows them that they're actually incorrect, they should flee in terror... not stand toe-to-toe with a Space Marine Chaplain!  *laugh*

Personally I'd probably lose fearless but make them more numerous than commisars, and definately give them evicerators as a weapon.

Aye the weapon name is definitely changing to "Evicerators".

I had considered losing fearless but making them more numerous (Say 1 per 300pts, giving 10 for a 3k list instead of 6).

Alternatively they could lose inspiring and keep fearless (But priests are Inspiring)...

...or they could stay the same. :)
