It is such a shame GW is putting their best sculpters behind Epic because I think we'd be getting much better stuff.

This quote just doesn't make sense....do you mean "...GW isn't..."? As that would make much more sense.

You bring up a good point about varience with the Epic 40k range, but I believe Jervis is (was) having them re-tooled, at least with the IG stuff, so I think _some_ of the varience will still be there.

Plus, I'm not sure this is the correct place to rant and rave about how bad the new models are. You don't have to buy them! You can get older models.

I know we promote free speech on the forum, but I think a line must be drawn somewhere.

Cheers

Chris

Hi!

This model was bashed good enough on another thread with you should search to see the gamut of impressions.

Granted its not the prettiest thing they have done, hopefully some "retouching" will be dne on it.

The new IG miniatures will come with main chassis attached to tracks. The Vanquisher I painted for fanatic was cast like this. Seems a bit strange to me since they've literally made a mould of the 3 parts put together, but it does save some hassle.

I would hope that they will have a number of options available for each of the chassis types, but I dont know anything on this for certain either way.

Primarch:
I'm afraid for those who are not keen, this IS the final model.

Gandalf:
The old models will still be available for the warhound. It does look better in real life, its not a particularly flattering angle. Hopefully I will get clearance to post my own images soon & you can get a better view. Certainly not a favourite of mine, but so far I do personally think its getting more bad press than it really deserves. You're welcome to your opinions though  :blues:

My bad. I don't proof read. I am an idiot. Sorry.

Plus, I'm not sure this is the correct place to rant and rave about how bad the new models are. You don't have to buy them! You can get older models.

Where? I'm sorry Chris, if I said I liked it, would you have approved my post? Maybe I'll run everything through you first before I post it, just to make sure you don't think it is a rant or something you might disagree with. ?I know we all like Epic, but I'll be damned if I am going to rubber stamp everything Fanatic releases just because it has Jervis's stamp of approval. ?I think the Warhound sucks and that is that. ?If you like it, you can buy it! I am still going to think that I wouldn't be interested if someone gave it to me for free.

I can't keep track of who said what in what thread because they start out with a theme, but evolve into something completely different. ?If you are reading this post, and feel it has already been covered already, I apologize. ?If you really like the Warhound, and are irritated that I have insulted it, I am sorry. Actually I am not going to apologize for my opinion, I am being sarcastic.

Maybe I have grown out of this s*h*i*t or whatever, but this reminds me how much gamers seem to have their heads up Jervis's ass to a point that if you are the slightest bit critical of what he does you are a bad guy, or he's our savior because he has given us the Ork Landa! Thank God! ?Please, give me a break. ?I actually thought that posting here was more diplomatic than saying it sucked on the Epic Playtesting forum, but I guess it doesn't make a difference where I post.

Okay, everyone relax and breath deeply. :)

This model has been released for EpicA, and this is the EpicA forum.  I dont see a problem with criticising it here, so will leave the thread here.  Just like if someone were to praise the new Valkyrie (yum) I'd leave it here.

And as for the topic beng covered, that maybe true.  But, like Gandalf, I dont get to see every post.  Where the Warhound was critiscised was on a thread of another topic, so its not unusual for him to have not seen it.  Many posts do start on one subject, and end up being one liners from star trek. ???    I too stop reading threads after a few pages, often because there's not much more of relevance there.

It would be far easier just to point him in the direction of other peoples comments.  We are fortunant now to have a site large enough where a lot is going on, and people with a lack of time may miss things like this.

Anyway, I would have personally loved to see the warhound looking like the 40K version that's recently released.  That is a lovely model.  I will, however, reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I will simply keep my pair of Forgeworld Warhounds, and will buy more from them if I so choose.  It is your money, and that is what drives everything that GW does.  So if the model is not bought in sufficent numbers, then it will eventually go the way of the dodo.

And here is my one-liner:

I guess what was driving me to post what I did is that all this time there has been this grass-roots effort by the playtestors to encourage other gamers to play Epic so it will successful.  I know a lot of people like the game and would like to see it returned to its glory days.  I just don't see that happening if Fanatic releases crappy models.  I know the vehicles look good, but those are just scaled down versions of the designs that already exist.  If Fanatic releases models that look along the lines of the Warhound (which is why I brought up the influence of the sulpter's artistic abilities), then it won't matter how great the game is, no one is going to be sold on the poor designs.  I could be wrong but I really doubt it.  That is why I think it is disappointing.

Not to say that just because you have great minis that the game will be successful either, since Epic40k's minis are still some of the best and it wasn't a popular system.  I just think that EpicA rules are doing the best they can to get people interested at a time when the only thing new from GW is a new army for WFB or 40k, and the new LOTR movie, but I can just see people looking at the Warhound in it's blister pack and not buying it.  That is just that much lead that Fanatic won't be selling and it'll just sit.  If they just copied the FW one I'd buy 4-5 of them!

Between Fanatic and Forge World who knows what's going on !? ?It appears we'll have 2 versions or more of everything ?! ? Which I'm not sure is a good thing or not !? ?But as I said in a previous post, much of the E-A experiment seems a bit ill-conceived. ?Then F/W makes stuff that may or may not be in the E-A rules ! ?Did someone say that the Salamander was out and like many other models will be under the Chimera heading ? ??? ? Which is the way we plan on doing things anyway, but in any event, it appears it lacks some logic ... ? ? Maybe it's just me but the whole exercise seems convoluted and an after thought. ?I bought the F/W Falcons and after I looked at them and my G/W models, wondered why I bought them ? ?Confusing lot these G/W-F/W types !? ? ?}:)

Hi!

Gandalf, as always, I got no problem with rants, I'm usually the source of most of them.  :;):

I can see your points, I almost always agree with them, but you do come off a bit "angry" in your posts. You remind me on how angry I was with GW after they released epic 40k. But, you can say what you will, with stinging accuracy, but with less anger. I do realize that visiting and posting on the Epic A forums has made you apprehensive (I have read and been entertained with your posts and spats with you know who...).

But dont feel restricted in posting here. This is NOT the epic A forums (heaven forbid), so you dont have to be apprehensive or too aggressive in posting. We all take your thoughts in the manner they were intended, well meant opinions.

Hey Gandalf, I am sorry for saying what I did, it was kinda out of place and made me come off as a bit of an as*hole.

Agreed, this isn't the Epic:A playtesters forum, and we don't mind as much as they do, but sometimes posts have to be slightly toned down.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Guys,

Decision made, I started fiddling with a 5000point Ork list last night ready for the New Year's painting project to begin. I wont be starting this project in any big way until the 21st January, as thats when my GF returns to Uni, but I may Fiddle a few bits before then (and I'm cheating anyway as I have a few bits already done!)

I want to have 3 factions to give a good variety of painting. These will be a Blood Axe Faction (possibly with some looted Desert Ferrin Vehicles for character - I have some chimeras & Leman Russ left over anyway!), a Bad Moon Faction and last but by no means Least, The Speed Freaks Faction. All will be roughly equal in size at just under 1500points each, and the Gargant will fill the gap to make 5K.

The List somewhat wrote itself. I started making a note of what units I wanted, and when I stopped to toal up how much I'd got so far, I'd almost filled the 5K! On Noticing I hadnt included any flyboyz, the addition of a few put me just over the target (dodgey maths withstanding). So the list currently stands at:

Blood Axe Faction:
Big Warband (4 Nobz, 12 Boyz, 4 Grotz)
+ 2 Nobz
+ 10 Battlewagons ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?770 points

Stormboyz Warhorde (6 Stormboyz) ? ? ? ? ? ? ?150
+ 6 x Kommandoz ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?150
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 300 points

'Uge Blitz Brigade (2 flakwagon, 10 Gunwagonz) 350
+ 2 Gun Fortresses ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?270
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 620 points

Blood Axe Total: ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?1690points

Bad Moonz Horde

Big Warband (4Nobz, 12 Boyz, 4gretchin) ? ? ? ? ? ? 350 points
Big Mekboy Gunz Mob ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 225

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 325 points
Stompa Mob ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 225
+ 2 Stompas ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?+150
+ 4 Dreds ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?+140
+ 5 killa Kanz ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? +125
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?640 points

Bad Moonz Total: 1315 points

Kult of Speed

Flyboyz (6 Fighta Bomberz) ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 300 points

Big KoS(5 Bike, 8 Buggies, 3 Skorchers) ? ? ? ?350

I can come up with Ork Models for pretty much anything (with the worrying exception of Fighta Bombers it seems...), so let me know what you'd keep, change or alter in this list as I've not playtested Orks myself yet so am looking for advice!

many thanks for your input, I'll start amassing the troops.....

I think that is due to the lack of a model...

Fighta bombers shouldn't be a problem Tuff, they will be avaliable when you start this project.

Generally speaking, it looks good, but the formations are really large all across the board.  You would probably do better splitting a few of them up to give you a bit more tactical flexibility.

>> Big Warband (4 Nobz, 12 Boyz, 4 Grotz)
+ 2 Nobz
+ 10 Battlewagons                                          770 points

For example, this is really big.  It could easily function as 2 mechanized infantry units for only slighly more points.  Solid and well-rounded either way.

>> Stormboyz Warhorde (6 Stormboyz)              150
+ 6 x Kommandoz                                                150

You Kommandoz will slow down your Stormboyz.  I would recommend all Stormboyz, or dethkoptaz in order to keep your speed up.  As long as you are 50% or greater on Stormboyz, the formation will still be able to garrison.

It's rather unfortunate, but Kommandoz don't have much place in the army, tactically speaking.  They would probably do better in the warband, as you could have them ride along to the assault, and they they can bypass ZoC when charging, allowing more units in base-to-base.

>> 'Uge Blitz Brigade (2 flakwagon, 10 Gunwagonz)
+ 2 Gun Fortresses

Again, this could be 2 formations.  Perhaps a Big brigade and a basic w/ Fortresses.  My personal preference for an armor formation is basic BB (1 flak, 2 gunwagon, 1 oddboy wagon), and a gunfortress for 335 points.

>> Big Mekboy Gunz Mob                                 225
+ 2 Oddboyz                                                     +100

I would strongly recommend picking up all the spare nobz.  Gunz don't count for mob up, so you really need the help on removing BMs.  Also, having a few extra stands to bump it to a Uge mob might be fun (I like the gunz).

>> Stompa Mob                                           225
+ 2 Stompas                                                  +150
+ 4 Dreds                                                      +140
+ 5 killa Kanz                                                 +125

I would recommend taking fewer kans, dreads and stompas and take a supastompa for about the same points.  Same firepower as a gargant for much lower price.

>> Bad Moonz Total: 1315 points

Never enough bad moonz! :p

>> Big KoS(5 Bike, 8 Buggies, 3 Skorchers)        350
+ 1 Flak Wagon                                                  35
+ Oddboy                                                          50

The oddboy has nothing to upgrade.  You can't add it to a flakwagon or any of the KoS units.  If you want flak shots and an oddboy, you will need to take a flakwagon and a gunwagon w/ the upgrade.

I've found KoS do better when they are single-purpose formations.  This is a solid, well-rounded formation but you have other well-rounded formations.  I would recommend making the formation all bikes, or all LVs.  If you want a shooty formation, a mix of mostly buggies, with a few skorchas and the wagonz.  If you want an assault formation, use mostly bikes with a few skorchas, but the mix of bikes and LVs may come back to haunt you.

>> Big KoS                                                   350
+ Flak Wagon                                                      35
+ 8 Gunwagons                                                  280

Similar to above.  If you want an armor formation, use a straight BB, as it will no doubt end up cheaper.  If you really want a mix, double check whether it's cheaper this way, or with a BB and upgrades (You're probably right, but I have no idea off the top of my head).

This would also work well as separates - Big Kos and Big BB.

Hope that helps.
