Eldar decided to choose the two central squares, and then deployed the Rangers ahead in the central squares, while the IG put the Rough Riders on either flank. The rest of the forces were deployed in the central squares.
In summary, fearing the volcano cannon, the Revenants advanced and blew away the Shadow Sword and were in turn broken by an infantry company based in a wood and an adjacent Baneblade. Having exposed the IG flank, the Eldar decided to try to clip the infantry using artillery and a guardian formation assaulting from a Storm Serpent - but the assault failed to poor positioning and worse dice rolling.
The HQ company advanced to cover the center of the table, but failed to dislodge the Rangers. A second attempt at a Guardian assault from the Gate also ended in disaster, and the IG reinforced the center with the Leman Russ company. But the tanks were funnelled by terrain into a narrow area - - - right in front of the Cobra ... Well Netepic isn't going to do that again in a hurry

. However, the IG were slowly grinding forwards hemming the Eldar into their initial deployment area.
Conclusions1) This is a really good scenario requiring more considered deployment than we gave it. The larger deployment zone means that even the weaker 90cm artillery can be placed in range of opponents, while there is even the possibility of 1st turn assaults if forces are placed 40 cm apart.
2) The goals are clear and the game-length is appropriate.
3) The terrain in the two central squares needs to be chosen with care as it dominates the game, allowing access to the inner edges of the outer squares. In our case there were some woods and a ruin which made the game very interesting.
4) We assumed that the Eldar Gate could be deployed along with the Vanguard, though it could be interpreted differently. Notes may need to include other items like this.
