Hi all,

Man of Kent and I played 2 3k playtest games last night. One with the UK list, one with the French one.

He should be posting the first one with the uk list soon.

Here is second game, using the french list.

I don't know exactly what the tyranid army had in it, hopefully MoK will post it at the end :)

After realising how pointless his AA spore things were in the first game (I had no flyers) we agreed to let him drop them in the second game and upgrade the titan to the big one.

It was something like

Big titan
2 Tyrants + 6 carnifexes (SC + BTS)
Large guant swarm with 3 Warriors + Zonesthrope(BTS)
Small swarm with 3 Biovores
Medium Swarm with 2 warriors + Zonethrope
Harriden + 6 Gargoyles
3 Exocrines + Tyrant
2 x 5 Lictors
6 'Stealers + Broodlord
6 'Stealers

I kept forgetting to take pictures in this game, so unfortunatly there arn't many overall shots, just lots of closeups, sorry  :sulk:

But there wasn't a great deal of movement, so if you keep checking back on the deployment picture, you should be able to keep track of things.

Chaos Army, from 2008 handbook.

Retinue + Havoks + Oblitorator (BTS)
Retinue + 2 Landraiders + 2 Rhinos
Retinue + Plauge Marines + 6 Rhinos (SC)
Forlorn Hope + 2 Rhinos
Forlorn Hope + 2 Rhinos
5 Raptors
5 Terminators
8 Bikes
Decimator
Decimator

Deployment

BTS Havoks garrisoned on overwatch in the buildings in the middles of the board with a forlorn hope screening them.

Everything else started mounted in transports behind that with the raptors screening a decimator from air assault.

The 'nid large swarm deployed behind the hill on the chaos left flank with the carnis, bio-tanks and titan in the center. The 'stealers and small swarm went behind the buildings to the chaos right flank.

Turn 1

Chaos win ini, no teleport attacks.

Forlorn on the left advance slowly and kill a biovore and suppress another

Bio-titan responds by doubling behind the woods and breathes at the forlorn doing no damage.

Landraider retinue advance into the ruined buildings and shoot the carnis and in a spectacular display of 1s and 2s, 3 of the fex's die.

Exocrines respond by advancing and shooting at the landraider's infantry, but do no damage.

Harridan is about to air assault the prep'ed landraider retinue but realises at the last minute that the havok formation is still on overwatch to has a change of heart.

Wanting to move before the harridan attacks, Decimator 1 advances and kills an exocrine.

The biovores sustain at the havoks, killing a marine stand.
Tyranids retain and the Harridan air assaults the forlorn hope on the chaos right flank.
2 Marine stands and a Rhino are killed. The marines inflict 4 hits back (2 from rhinos) killing 2 gargoyles and inflicting a critical hit on the harridan, killing it. Both formations are broken. Marines fall back on the blitz and the 'nids flee for the hills.

Raptors (Disks) move up to the wood to attack next turn.

Carnifexes double to the other side of the woods and shoot at the forlorn, doing no damage.

Decimator 2 doubles to shoot the caris, killing 2. SC tyrant falls back to the rocky outcrop.

The big swarm double into the building on the hill

Bikes double right in front of them to screen the plague marines.

Swarm on the right march into the crater.

Plague marines advance behind the bikes and forlorn and stay in the rhinos.

'Stealers march into the buildings

Havoks sustain at the stealers but not all are in range. 2 die

Broodlord marches into the same buildings

All units rally.

Turn 2

2 Lictors teleport with no BMs, as do the terminators with 1 BM
Lictors appear behind the buildings to the chaos left threatening the mounted plague marines and the decimator.
Terminators appear in the tyranid rear to attack the SC tyrant.

Chaos win ini.

Plague marines attack before they get killed in the transports, assaulting the bugs on the hill.
Zonethrope MW kills and Plague marine, all other make saves. Support fire from bikes helps kill everything apart from one warrior stand which falls back the blitz.

Chaos retain with threatened decimator fails the activation but uses SC reroll, sustaining at the titan. Inflicts 2 DC.

Swarm on the right double out of the crater and shoot at the landraider retinue.

Tyranids retain assaulting landraiders with Broodlord 'stealers.
Support fire from gaunts helps 'nids win by 2 and a single marine stand survives, falling back to the blitz. All 'stealers bar the broodlord die.

Terminators firefight SC tyrant who is killed by chaos sorcerer MW blast, surviving tyrant falls back (BTS secure).

Chaos retain and the raptors firefight unactivated 'stealers, wiping them out.

Titan advances and shoots havoks, killing 2.

Lictors retain and assault havoks. Havok's armour saves are amazing and only 1 stand falls including biotitan support. All lictors are killed.

Bikes assault the titan with support from almost everything. One bike stand dies and the titan takes 2DC and a critical hit roll of 6 (lose regenerate and synapse). It falls back behind the woods.

Biovores hoot at forlorn.

Lictors fail to activate.

Decimator 1 shoots swarm on the right, breaking them.

Exocrines kill one bike.

We decide to stop it there at the end of turn 2 as the tyranids would struggle to stop a 5-0 win to chaos and few fancied making it to the pub before last orders :).

Overall I think Chaos has better dice, in both games but the French list seemed to fair better than the UK one and the lack of spawning made it easier and quicker. However they really need expendable gaunts as breaking the swarms with shooting was very easy.

Regeneration wasn't really a factor but I can imagine it being very irritating. I prefer the uk system of getting more DC.

I'll let MoK suggest the other changes we discussed as he is more familiar with the lists.

Indeed; a couple of good games; my intention was to test (as much as my limited infantry horde would allow) a tooth and claw list; in the end i felt that both lists had serious drawbacks but i'll go into them once i've posted my report of from our 9.1 game.
You can expect my report and comments somewhen tommorow morning.

An intruiging comparrison between the UK and FR lists. I presume that Ben played Chaos both times?

Also, do you plan any re-matches, perhaps with swapped armies?
