Flogus and I played our first game of the year yesterday. I was using my new camera, so plenty (and I mean plenty!) of pictures this time !

Rules : Handbook 2008
Biel-Tan (Handbook 2008)
Space Marines (Handbook 2008, with house rule "Any detachment may replace its Rhinos with a Dreadnought for free")

ELDARS - BIEL-TAN - 4000 pts

- Wraithgate

- Aspect Warhost
8 Aigles Chasseurs (2 Exarchs)
- Aspect Warhost
6 Dire Avengers (1 Exarch)
2 Dark Reapers (1 Autarch)
- Aspect Warhost
4 Striking Scorpions (1 Exarch)
2 Dark Reapers (1 Exarch)
2 Dire Avengers

- Engines of Vaul
2 Scorpions
- Engines of Vaul
2 Cobras
- Engine of Vaul
1 Storm Serpent
- Engines of Vaul
1 Storm Serpent
- Shields of Vaul
3 Nightspinners

- Warlock Titan
- Nightwings

SPACE MARINES - 4000 pts

GROUND FORCES
- Tactical (Supreme Commander, Hunter)
- Whirlwinds
- Land Speeders (5 Tornados)
- Warlord Titan

AIR ASSAULT
- Thunderhawk (empty)
- Thunderhawk
--- Assault (Chaplain)
--- Devastator

PLANETARY ASSAULT
- Strike Cruiser
- Tactical (Dreadnought, Drop Pods)
- Devastator (Dreadnought, Drop Pods)

TELEPORTATION
- Terminators (Chaplain)

And as usual, the rest of the report is HERE. It's in French but there's a lot of pics so the action should be easy to follow. I know I hardly had to look at my notes while typing the battle report.

even with my patchy French, it looks like you never really recovered from the different drops behind your lines and the loss of 500pts worth of SHTs. Shame the combat monster Warlock was so far out on your flank too, looked like it spent alot of time marching to get close to something - it would have really made a mess out of some of those drop units (I think you put that in your debriefing).

Ever considered using jetbikes? That would be a good counter against this type of drop army - or Aspects in a Vampire. Firestorm AA would have also helped, if only to limit the no. of approaches/ targets the Thunderhawks had.

Great game and write up though!

Indeed, that was a hard blow. Massing my troops around that hill really put me in deep sh** as this is just where the drop pods landed. And leaving my Cobras and Storm Serpent unsupported was a bad idea too. I actually forgot that marching formations can't use flak, so I thought my cobras were relatively safe for any air assault... I was wrong.

Yes, bad deployment here. I was actually more afraid of the orbital bombardment than I should have. After all, I mostly had WE, so the bombardment wouldn't have that devastating even if it had landed on top of them. I should have deployed my troops in a more concentrated fashion.

Ever considered using jetbikes? That would be a good counter against this type of drop army - or Aspects in a Vampire.

I would use jetbikes all the time, but it seems there's always some other unit to paint first...  :p  But the next Eldar formation I'll paint will most probably be jetbikes.

Firestorm AA would have also helped, if only to limit the no. of approaches/ targets the Thunderhawks had.

I made another mistake here, because the Nightwings should have been on CAP orders all game instead of wasting their shots on the Terminators and the Titan. Had I done that in the first turn, I might have delayed/hampered the air assault on my Cobras. Oh well...

Thanks for your input and advice!  :))

Man you had a real marathon shootout and pic editing on this one. Though it's very nice to follow really. Do you know Firebase? Have you considered asking if they would want something like this? I don't have enough energy to handle that many pics, but it makes the epic turn easier to follow.

Oooh, good idea. I'll try and contact them to see if they need a batrep.

I actually got into a frenzy of pics with my new camera, and only afterwards did I realize that it makes writing the batrep so much more easy. And reading it too, I hope. Editing didn't take too long, it's only a matter of adding some arrows with Paint, so... BTW, did the arrows indicating movement help at all when reading the batrep?

no worries, that's just what I've learned from battle reports on here - I haven't played Eipc for around 15years :) Just goes to show how important and useful these reports are! My ancient Eldar army'll be arriving soon though, so I'll see how all this theory stands up to reality :;):

That Nightwing attack on Terminators was really weird. I would suggest using Nightwings mainly against RA AVs or mixed formations as then you can take advantage of Lance, which is very good ability.

Yes, really bad call on my part, that.  :glare:

I was actually afraid to move forward too soon with my ground troops (lack of targets and a threatening Warlord...), so I used my Nightwings. The Terminators were the only formation out of AA cover. I completely forgot to put the Nightwings on CAP, as I should have.
